You might have to avoid extra IR. Adding IR with a camera is like having two cameras. 2042&2142 will definantly need extra. If your wife is of concern maybe some led flood lights are best, though makes property owners look concerned with 24/7 lighting

IMO if you want the best contrast you should so the turrents and extra IR. Have you considered DS-2CD2T42WD-I5 ? Great IR, better than turrents, possible you may not need extra IR. Also bugs go towards lights no matter the type, and since youre in a "swamp" you will likely have more than less...

The chinese cameras wont have the original mounts that come on english/wr cameras

Two things that cross my mind. You extracted the zip to get the firmware file? If yes, than you may want to try another firmware version. i was having similar issue while trying to tftp. You have to wait for the last responce from tftp ~5-8mins

A lot of the hiks firmware have a time delay for switching IR on and off, you can usually increase it. I dont see it in the picture of your settings(where it should be), maybe try another firmware?

The placement and location(geographical) has more to do with spiders. I get less spiders on my cams with the tiny IR "dots" and a ton of spiders on my camera with the projecting IR(2cd2232)
