Thank you for that link, I never thought of wayback machine. The now defunct Acceptable Use Policy refers to "Restricted Activities and Holds" in the Paypal User Agreement, which says this about the $2,500 "fine":

If you use your PayPal account primarily for the purposes of your trade, business, craft or profession and you violate the Acceptable Use Policy, then:
  • in addition to being subject to the above actions you will be liable to PayPal for the amount of PayPal's damages caused by your violation of the Acceptable Use Policy;
  • you acknowledge and agree that USD 2,500.00 (or the prevailing equivalent in the currency of the country in which you reside) per violation of the Acceptable Use Policy is:
    • a reasonable minimum estimate of PayPal's actual damages including but not limited to, internal administrative costs incurred by PayPal to monitor and track violations, damage to PayPal’s brand and reputation, and penalties imposed upon PayPal by its business partners resulting from a user’s violation considering all currently existing circumstances, including the relationship of the sum to the range of harm to PayPal that reasonably could be anticipated;
    • reasonable and proportionate in its application to the provision of the Services to you; and
    • necessary, but no more than sufficient, to protect PayPal’s legitimate interest in your compliance with the Acceptable Use Policy; and
  • PayPal may deduct such damages directly from any existing balance in any PayPal account you control.
This is the most recent version I could find in wayback machine, captured May 12, 2022. I still haven't seen any documentation that says the "fine" applies to buyers. If somebody finds it and sticks my nose in it I will fess up to my error. I still claim that credible media reports should document their claims instead of leaving the reader responsible to verify them.
The right wing media is just as bad as the left wing media. They know that 90% of the readers never make it past the headlines before they copy and paste.

Yeah I got the email from paypal about the update to their user agreement this past Thursday. I flagged it to delete my account and took the time to read it. Clearly it was initially for “users” along with the blatant “woke” language forbidding me to say just about anything they didn’t like. It was that vague.

Paypal is rabidly anti 2nd Amendment anyway, this just made it clear they are following the “progressive” liberal woke playbook.

They scrubbed it earlier today

Still makes zero f*$kin sense
They already destroyed their reputation. In addition to that they modified a small clause in their TOS stating that any misrepresentation of any product of service subjects the user to a $2500 charge to their PayPal account.

OTOH

In 2010, Paypal and a number of other financial giants blocked Wikileaks from getting donations, and it pushed Julian Assange and the non-profit toward bitcoin. In 2019, Paypal shut off ties to sex workers leveraging the adult web portal Pornhub, and at the time 100,000 adult performers were left stranded. In 2020, Paypal merchants who sold products associated with the eight-legged micro-animals called tardigrades or “moss piglets” had issues with the payment processor because the name tardigrade was used by a Balkan arms dealer.

Not easy to do business with those big companies, like amazon, some bad people return the camera without housing....And amazon put back to go on sell as new without damn checking, but we always ask them put as reutrns and not sell as new anymore. Honest customers send me emails to ask why i ship bad situation camera as new. Actually speaking all shipment by amazon we never can do double check, they are the boss, and will punish us for sending bad situation cams. :headbang:

Not only were they assholes, then they publicly lied to everyone and said it was an "error" after they got put in the spotlight for being asswipes. Then, they lie again and said "this language was never intended to be inserted in our policy". They just keep making up lies and it is snowballing on them. The desktop computer didn't automatically insert that clause by "computer error". I am waiting for that excuse, next.:mad:

Andy - that is horrible people would do that to you, but not surprising.

I can only imagine how many returns you get from "idiots" that don't understand basic networking and that the camera IP address is probably different than their IP address, but they are used to a scan a QR code and they are up and running.

And then ill-intent like this one - probably someone with an existing boobie cam that scratched or had glazed over domes, so they bought and returned and kept the domes knowing Amazon won't do anything about it.

I thought all the returns went to your guy to check them over and then go to refurb list or does Amazon sneak some returns in based as new based on the return comment?

so what other method does this forum take for is supporters?
I removed my bank and major credit cards from PP leaving just my credit union which I locked down. I support several other forums I frequent and try to help out when someone is in need or their dog needs to go to the vet and they have no money and used PP for that

Not answering the question, this is a real dilemma. It's hard to do any onine shopping without one of the big online beasts getting a cut of the proceeds, whether it be amazon, paypal, google, a big bank, etc. Mailing a check isn't very handy for either the buyer or seller, and isn't going to work very well for overseas purchases. I wouldn't mind if these companies just did their job, but once they get big enough they take the money they skim from us to promote liberal politics, wokeism, and crush any competitors. It pretty much like voting where you always have to determine the least of evils instead of someone you truly like. Seriously, if you want to buy an IP camera and want to avoid paypal, how do you do it? Using amazon is just feeding a different evil beast.

Well, Arjun did mention in passing some European company named Klarna. I have never heard of it, but they seem to have a presence in the US. IDK, they may be worse than PayPal or they could be a godsend. Anybody know anything about them?

I use Klarna for a lot of domestic payments, mainly due to the fact that I get cash back in the form of gift cards as well as points on the credit card. They even have payment protection.
