Thanks again!

Reinstated the DS-2CD2332-I row, and the POE column (not sure why they disappeared?). PoE capability is worth noting since most assume it is NOT present in a camera, unless stated.

Thank you for helping... I had to revert to even older version since someone had deleted several models in the sheet. And this is not the first time... :( Some day I maybe have to restrict the editing. But let's see how it goes on.

Looks like none of the aliexpress cctv nvr links work, products are discontinued?

Yes, it looks like CCTV China is no longer selling the 78xx series, none in the store.
CSST Wholesale is still doing them, and lots more, a big range to choose from.
http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/cT40daeM[/QUOTE] Yeah, for the life of me I can't figure out which to get anymore. I want something that can handle say up to 8 POE cameras, relatively easy to setup and can be viewed from an app on a phone sort of thing. That I can trigger to come on with motion/events. I assume most if not all POE Hik NVR's can do this, but the variances between Project vs Family level, 76XX series vs 78XX vs 71XX, etc. is quite daunting. Moving in a few weeks, and apparently in the area there were some cars broken into the day before yesterday (it's a very nice area but guess that doesn't matter!), so want something ASAP. Tempted to just go with an installer, but I have already prewired the house with Cat6 in the positions where I want to put cameras so can't imagine installation will be difficult and not sure I need to spend 2-3 times to have an installer do it.

Wow! That's an 8 SATA HDD box for 8 channels, 8 of them PoE, Australian market. Comes with an Oz mains lead. *edit* Ooops - 4 HDDs, not 8. Typo.
"Model Number:08N-E4/8P"
ie 7808N-E4/8P

If you are aiming for 8 cameras initially, for sure you will add more over time, I'd go for a 16ch model, that's what I did. 7816N-E2 and 7816N/8P

Single HDD vs 2 HDD, rackmount style / size case vs small form factor case.
Quite likely different CPU and RAM, but you can't tell from the specs.
The 7808 is likely the same CPU / RAM as the 7816, just told to behave as a 7808 by the 'hardware descriptor block' in the flash that's written after manufacture.

That's the first NVR that I bought, and the same seller. It's what I term my 'production' machine, which I haven't messed with. Except when I accidently install a modified 3.2.1 firmware on it via a telnet session to the wrong IP address. Fortunately I'd backed up the as-delivered firmware and the finished configuration so was able to put it back the way it had been.

Thanks for information, I removed the dead links now. You should consider again before using CSST, since there have been reports of them shipping bad units.

With all the new releases of FW, Products, Chinese, International, English, old, new, I am noticing compatibility issues are starting to surface more and more.

We need a compatibility chart.

Yes.. do you mean some cameras aren't compatible with some NVRs?

Looking to buy one of the NVR from the spreadsheet link of aliexpress because of the awesome price - but are there still issues with updating the firmware?

Edit - are the following two products compatible?
DS-2CD2132F-IS 4x for the cameras and the dvr is ds 7808n - e2/8p .

You will not be able to update the firmware. There are newer 2mp and 4mp cameras that are better than the 3mp in low light..
