Dahua NVR NVR5216-16P-4KS2E On Amazon

I’m researching NVRs and looking at the Dahua NVR NVR5216-16P-4KS2E. I found it on Amazon Prime. I wanted to ask the group if they have any thoughts on buying Dahua NVRs on Amazon. Asking because I have read more than one place in the forums to be aware of buying IP cameras on places like eBay and Amazon because they could be compromised and vulnerable to hacks. Just wanted to get feedback before I buy.

Also as a second question if there is any thoughts on the NVR I have selected please give me some feedback. I’m a newbie and appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

As to the NVR you have selected, it has internal Ethernet ports and that means all Ethernet wiring will need to terminate at the NVR, for all the cameras. Do yourself a favor, and thoroughly read the Wiki, before deciding on this type of setup. I have found using an external POE+ switch with an NVR that does not have internal POE ports to be a better solution. It allows placement of the equipment in a remote/unobtrusive location. Also, a big negative of NVR's with internal Ethernet POE ports is the noise level of cooling fans. NVR's (low end ones) without internal POE ports are almost always much quieter, and can be located in living areas without being an irritation. I have a Dahua NVR5216-4KS2, and I can barely hear it.

What switch are you using. I need a ePOE switch because I have some longer runs +400ft.

I have a couple of POE+ switches. My primary one, I would not recommend as it seems to not be able to provide sufficient power to PTZ1A1225-IRA-N PTZ camera. It would frequently, restart. The 2 switches I currently use are:
V7 MPEGS24-1N
TP-Link TL-SG108PE

I would not recommend the V7. It's very pricey for what you get unless you purchase a refurb, and it does not deliver the power, as claimed.

Others will need to chime in, on an ePOE switch. I have no need for anything like that.

I have the 8 port version of the NVR (NVR5208-8P-4KS2) and it works great. I purchased it from Andy, and I highly recommend him. As for having individual POE ports on the NVR, it wasn't a problem since my NVR is centrally located in the house (laundry room). As for the internal fan, it is noticeable yet not a problem, no louder than some PC computer fans.

Will the NVR5216-16P-4KS2E allow cameras connected via a external switch and cameras connected directly (home run) to work at the same time ? So 4 cameras on a external switch and 8 home runs. I would assume yes but confused after your statement above. Thx

That is fine, but if you already have poe switch then no need to use poe NVR anymore. Just use a None POE NVR.

Let me affirm this recommendation. Great prices, quick delivery. I have not needed his support, but all reports from others are very positive. He is an active participant here.

I noticed that the TP-Link TL-SG108PE only has 4 POE ports and the other 4 are not. If I am trying to power 5 cameras does that mean I need to get a 10 port or 16 port POE switch?

Depends on what NVR you get and if one of those five cameras can have a cable directly to the NVR. The switch is only to reach those cameras that are not close to the NVR that is assuming your NVR has PoE

All 5 cameras will be connected in my master closet hub. (Cat6 already ran from all camera locations to master closet hub.) That is where I plan to install my NVR. If I choose the non POE NVR, I need a switch that has 5 POE ports right? So that would rule out the TP-Link TL-SG108PE??

Not necessarily If all u need is one more you could get a single Poe injector for the last one but think your better off getting a different switch with 8 Poe ports unless the cost is so good on the TP link. I assume you need a managed switch ?
