Tricky stuff.
If I'm going to insert myself as a good guy civilian with LE on the scene, I'm going to ask first before I draw.
Do you need my help? I'm legally armed and trained and can assist if you need help
Now if LE is one on one with a suspect hands on with no backup, on the ground or obviously losing the brawl, and no weapons showing, I'd probably just jump in while shouting "Good Guy here to help you"
Lots of assumptions and details left out of course, point being it can get real tricky real fast

I believe friendly is an appropriate word to say. As you said unless they’re clearly losing the battle I’m staying the hell out of it, and definitely not standing out in the open with whatever stance he was using there. He looks like the wind is going to blow him over backwards
Her reaction was interesting-- she seemed a Lot more thankful he offered some assistance than irritated that he did. Agree with you and Jeep though--- I'd make my presence known and offer--- but stay the hell out of it unless requested.

Yeah with the wrong cop or bad day, that could have ended differently. At minimum he should have used the white vehicle as cover. 10ft tall and bullet proof attitude can get ya shot!

A buddy I shot IDPA with organized a security team at his church. Good size. I want to say they have 15-20 on the team. Good video surveillance 
and they train regularly with various scenarios. I attended one session and they are pretty buttoned up
