    Long-distance camera limitation questions

ePOE makes sense for an existing IP system but..........for someone just wanting a camera at a distant gate HDCVI is so easy, cost effective and the fact that it can all run off a simple 12 volt supply and battery backup is an important consideration if power outages are a factor.

Ethernet Cable Max Distance - Something to Think About

Isn't the clue in .......when the wind blows? Maybe the data increase due to motion is the problem. Reduce the image resolution and or framerate etc and see what happens? Costs nothing to try.

    Long-distance camera limitation questions

I'd consider HDCVI for something like this.

IVS to SD card not working

My calendar is exactly the same as the screenshot, Green general, yellow motion and red alarm. No orange IVS to select.

IVS to SD card not working

Audrius, there is no IVS on any of the schedule or record pages. Just General, Motion and Alarm exactly the same as your screenshot.

Okay, tried every iteration suggested here and elsewhere without success and can only conclude it's a firmware problem.

    IVS Tripwire on Dahua

I think you have to use Private rather than Onvif for IVS to work i.e. Dahua protocol to Dahua protocol.

    P2P remote vs local connection

P2P works on my home LAN with the internet disconnected for about 2 minutes before disconnecting i.e. P2P to my cell disconnects after 2 minutes once the internet cable is pulled from the home router. Seems to coincide with the Easy4ip status changing from green (connected) to red...

IVS to SD card not working

Lanaii I'm pretty sure I've tried that. I never use MD on any of my IVS cameras so went straight to IVS when I set it up I'll try again step by step, Thanks.

IVS to SD card not working

Camera is a BF2120 (hybrid thermal) I can set up IVS and it triggers on screen from green to red etc. Schedule set but has no tickbox for IVS just General, Motion and Alarm, all ticked. No IVS recordings appear on the SD Card. Smart plan is set to IVS (Face detection also available but not...

    Installing a Starvis IMX291 Module

Has anyone tried installing an IMX291 module (2MP Starlight) into a Dahua housing? (replace the existing module) I've ordered the USB module to use as a webcam (sports timing application) and it appears this could be installed into a non Starlight existing unit (upgrade). US $63.24 7% OFF|Non...

Review-I'll be the guinea pig for the new SD59225U-HNI PTZ.

Can a schedule be set for auto track? It won't be needed during the day as the area of interest is occupied and heavily trafficked. Night time sees criminal traffic moving through the area. Hoping to reduce wear and tear and use the intimidation value of auto track at night.

Dahua | Thermal Mini Hybrid Bullet Introduction

Although the thermal sensor is only 160x240 it's an interesting combination with a Starlight 2MP. The 30 meter range may be a bit limited but in my experience when viewed live and using fast playback moving objects (criminals) show up far beyond the advertised range. For example I have a FC313...

    Dahua Drone

I wrote a long post and deleted it because...........but in a nutshell, recent fire 3 km from me 10,000 (not a typo) people displaced when their homes burnt down. Helicopters fighting the fire and a drone arrives. The local fire chief leaping up and down, social media outrage and 'lots of...

    Dahua Drone

I get the safety concerns and agree regulations are needed...........but I bet it's almost impossible to bring down an aircraft with a hobby drone. Those inclined to do harm would be dropping aircraft daily if it were that easy.

    Dealership Wheel Theft

Audio challenge would have moved them on before damage was done but when the police respond that quickly the best outcome was the arrest. Criminals undeterred by security floodlighting.

    Homemade starlight camera

Tehnicni, IMO it's more important to know that someone is there and read the body language than it is to get a high res identifiable image (which is a nice to have) if you can get it. I'm obviously ignoring well lit scenarios.

    Homemade starlight camera

At night.......Face or identity detection is a "nice to have" especially in a forensic sense after an event, so don't get me wrong. In the real world, real time detection rather than resolution is first prize as the threat can be dealt with either by deflecting it or evading it. For this...

I think some of you miss the most basic part of security

We all have a plan until we get punched in the face - Mike Tyson I think 90% of people here are in the hobby nice to have camera leauge and crime detection / deterrence is an added benefit and that's the way it should be for everyone. I've lived through a zero crime doors unlocked at night era...

    Roof party

Recap. As the video above shows, HDCVI can do an excellent job. I have found it invaluable under certain circumstances. Installing IP because one can is not always the best solution. Installing HDCVI does not mean one is IP challenged or indeed a crook with no scruples as suggested above.

I wrote severed not serviced. The plumber cut the cable while doing plumbing and covered his tracks by twisting the damaged cable together and the system stayed up and running. I don't know about less skill, cost and profit. My work is community service.

    Roof party

You of course are correct. I should have written "monitoring and maintaining". Replacing HDCVI cameras and cable can be carried out by a handyman from within that community. Recently a plumber severed a camera cable and simply twisted them together. The cut was only discovered months later by a...

Fair point but....I've not really had a need to experiment as I'm happy to install powerax. I installed the very first HDCVI cameras that arrived on the market and the word at the time was that in using baluns quality would be reduced (It is but not by much) as well as transmission range...

    Roof party

I've been led to believe that baluns couldn't be used for HDCVI installations so I have stuck to coax. Good to know. I like and use HDCVI for installations where the staff tasked with monitoring security cameras aren't familiar with computer systems.

    Useful Dahua Resource

When I was still finding my way around Dahua a few years ago there was very little information online other than this site which I found very informative. I have no connection with Bahamas Security.
