PTZ Motion Tracking Setup

I have had a Dahua 4A425 for some time now, but have never setup up the auto tracking on it. I'm having a hard time finding any resources that detail the setup I would like. Hoping someone here will have some insight. I would like the camera to be on a constant pan from one side of my property to the other, but when motion is detected, it begins to track until the motion stops. Is this attainable?

You do not want it panning. It only will start tracking when on a preset and not while in a pan. And the camera will be looking left and the perp comes from the right.

Plus they are only good for so many cycles and folks here have locked it up under two years with it on constant panning.

Much better to set up a spotter camera to tell the PTZ where to look.

Watch this video to set up tracking:

Tracking is caused by an IVS trigger being tripped. The IVS rules only exist while the camera is parked at a preset that has them. Here is a thread with a video and information on how my PTZ tracks after being called to a preset by the spotter.

Speaking of tracking. Can I use another PTZ as a spotter?

Could I use the driveway PTZ to make the barn PTZ turn around and start tracking. The driveway cam could track all the way to the barn, but not someone getting out and walking behind the house. The barn PTZ needs to pick that up, but it needs to keep an eye on the barn and anything coming from the other direction.

I could also use the stationary camera out front to spot for both PTZ cameras. Right now I still have an Alarm.com camera there, but I'm planning on replacing it with one of Andy's cameras. I'll eventually replace all of them around the house, but for now I'm getting my PTZ cams setup. The next cameras I order will be the stationary cameras for around the house.

You could, but the Driveway PTZ is not able to just "hand off" to the Barn PTZ. Assuming you are using Dahua/Andy, Driveway would need to be parked for the IVS rules to be active and able to be used to call another camera to a preset. Barn would also then need to be parked at that preset with enough time for IVS to be active.

This is why it is said that PTZs are a complement to an already good system, especially if you are wanting to use spotters and presets for tracking. A PTZ will only stay at a preset for so long when called there. Assuming you parked Driveway as above and used its IVS to both start tracking and call Barn to a preset, the clock starts ticking for the person to get to where Barn is with its IVS triggers. If they don't get there fast enough, or take a different route not through the IVS field, then Barn will not be able to track them and will return to watching the barn. PTZs can only track what they can see and will, inevitably, always be looking the wrong way.

In this case, the stationary camera is spotting too far away for the barn PTZ. It spots a vehicle coming down the driveway, and the barn PTZ will turn as far as it can toward the driveway (where that preset would be parked). However, because the vehicle takes to long to get to that particular barn PTZ preset area, it reverts back to the home preset where it's watching the barn.

So... how do I set that time frame. I'm thinking I could at least try the driveway PTZ spotting for the barn PTZ. I may set the driveway PTZ home preset closer to the house.

Because I have the barn PTZ lower than the garage ceiling, it can see that same area of the red arrows.

The only downfall is the tracking only tracks for a max of 5 minutes, which is not long before it goes back home... OR... if the vehicle or person trips another wire in that area, will it start tracking again?

That is correct.

You would have to set up a spotter to set it to a preset to then track a person there.

I suppose it won't let go of the vehicle to follow the individual. It starts tracking the vehicle first, so it stays with the vehicle.

I've seen my ptz follow one individual walking north and then it let go of the first target and switch to tracking another person walking south when they walk pass each other though. :)
