I was using that one until I upgraded to V4.001.0000006.1, Build Date: 2021-05-10

Both appear to support English.

I have a genuine Dahua branded DHI-NVR5232-4KS2 running V3.216.0000006.0, Build Date: 2019-02-23 (see attached photo) - would this update work with my NVR?

I have a mixture of genuine Dahua cameras and quite a few 'non-upgradeable' Chinese OEM Dahua cameras I got off eBay and Aliexpress (models IPC-HDW4631C-A, IPC-HDW4433C-A), a few Amcrest cameras (rebranded Dahua) and a couple ONVIF cameras that are all working with my NVR using the 2019-02-23 firmware.

My question is - will all of those cameras still work with my 5232 NVR once I upgrade the NVR?
If not, would I be able to downgrade back to the 2019-02-23 firmware?

If your NVR no big fail, just use the currently fw, your cams can't be updated, a little doubt if can support those cams after update.
Your cams all hacked from chinese models, so better not do any upgrade.

I'm just wondering why Dahua would shoot themselves in the foot and not work with their own cameras yet still work with non-Dahua ONVIF cameras from other manufacturers - it doesn't make any sense. Modified or not, the 'hacked' cameras are still made by Dahua, they still use the Dahua private protocol on port 37777 and RTSP on port 554, they are still 100% software compatible with SmartPSS - why would they make a conscious effort to NOT support their own cameras ONLY on their NVR's? Greed and money? From my understanding, the only difference between a 'genuine' Dahua and a 'hacked' camera is the language and if you upgrade the firmware it will revert back to all the menus being in Chinese. I can understand not being able to upgrade the cameras - but not the NVR's.

Has anyone tried the new firmware with a 'hacked' or OEM camera?
Does the new firmware work with Amcrest cameras? Anyone?

It would be nice to upgrade to the V4.x GUI on my NVR and not have to use IE.

A few comments:
1. Some bean counter disagrees with your analysis.
2. How often do strategic decisions made by large corporations make sense?
3. I'm running v4 firmware on a 5216 with chinese market cameras, BUT there's a big "but". The cameras are using the firmware from the first post of this thread:
Dahua Firmware Mod Kit + Modded Dahua Firmware

My understanding (which could be wrong) is that this firmware is international firmware hacked to run on chinese market cameras. The hacked cameras as you buy them are generally running chinese market firmware hacked to speak English. Therefore, my NVR thinks the chinese market cameras are international versions, which is probably not the case with cameras as sold on ebay or aliexpress. When I loaded the V4 firmware into the NVR I was prepared for the worst case of losing a few of my cameras, but came out lucky. On the NVR there's also the issue of if it's V1 or V2 hardware, as some V4 firmware versions reportedly don't run on V1 hardware. That's a different minefield to navigate. I'm running firmware V4.001.0000000.3, Build Date: 2020-05-19 on V1 hardware and I don't have any urge to risk bricking it again.

I'm just confirming for anyone interested that updating my 5 year old Dahua NVR5208-4KS2 (V1.0) to the newest firmware went without a hitch.

The latest firmware from Dahua's wiki DL site was released last month - DH_NVR5XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000006.1.R.210709

I had only updated the firmware once before, and was on a 3 year old V4 20190809. I first installed an intermediate 21010 version instead jumping directly to the newest. It probably wasn't needed since it was already on a V4 firmware, but seemed like a good thing to do to follow Andy's advice!

Prior to the update, I didn't do a full factory reset, but I did select reset of all functions except NETWORK config. That worked fine and I was able to immediately reconfigure everything from Chrome via NVR's WebUI using the original IP without having to deal with a very awkward default subnet/IP. I did not reload the backup config, as it was trivial to re-add just 5 cameras and start with a clean slate.

One nice improvement is my Amcrest AD410 doorbell is properly supported via the NVR and adds additional configuration capabilities that SmartHome app lacks.

I upgraded my brand new NVR5232-16P-4KS2E that came with Ver. 3.2 to this Ver 6.0 and had an issue with Camera Name changing from what I assigned to defaulting back to factory default. Did not have this issue with original ver. 3.2 so I went back to 3.2. Does anyone know if the newest 6.1 just released on Wiki site may have solved this issue? i would like to update to take advantage of using MP4 video clip.

I'm running V4.001.0000000.3 build date 2020-05-19. It's an older 5216 (v1 hardware), it works, and I'm keeping my hands off of it. I already have enough landscape bricks.
Sorry, new to this....how do you tell if it's a v1 hardware or v2?

If you are running V4 firmware, the maintain/system info page displays the hardware version. V3 firmware doesn't display this info. Other than that my memory is hazy. I think all epoe NVRs are V2. Other than that, it's more difficult to figure it out.

Andy,

I've read all the posts related to upgrading firmware on the NVR5XXX series and I'm getting conflicting opinions on whether to upgrade since the NVR says it is v1.0 hardware. I see a number of features I want in recent upgrades.
I have a DHI-NVR5208-8p-4KS2e bought from EmpireAndy 7/20/20 currently with firmware 4.001.0000003.1 Build Date: 2020-08-13 the system info says it is v1.0. What is the latest tested/stable firmware release I can install?

Update went fine, all my cameras are working, just curious if anyone else had any issues logging back in to the web interface? I can't get the page to come back up in any browser I choose. I normally use Chrome for everything never had an issue. Any ideas?
