New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

I do check in here from time to time since the Thread was a Very Active Thread at one time...

@pete_c still has this DB and was/is a big contributor to the 101 and this Thread.
Hi David, thanks very much for responding!
Looks like I am a bit late to the party. I bought EZVIZ DB1 on Amazon in 2021, but I never got around to installing it until earlier this year.
Regarding which manufacturers of this hardware are still active, the EZVIZ cloud (Free for "Last 3 Hours") and the EZVIZ NA support team still respond (by email no phone at support@ezviz.com) for EZVIZ DB1 product and support questions. Also, the EZVIZ app will still offer a firmware upgrade to EZVIZ V5.2.4 build 230404 if it detects you have something older. I attach a screenshot here where it did that.

One question. Do you have a URL to download a copy of firmware EZVIZ DB1 V5.2.4 build 230404.dav ? I can only install it via the app, as I do not have the actual file.

Personally and still working for me after xx years is:

1 - firmware 200321_na_us_version-zip
2 - Batch Configuration 3.0.2.3

I changed the password for admin and added a new user pete to the configuration.

Onvif and RTSP have worked great all of these years.

Every few months I would get a partial reset so went to using the Home Assistant RTSP proxy application and now do not get any partial resets.
When I did get a partial reset the doorbell would go to AP mode where I would just log in and reset my settings.
Hi pete_c! Thanks very much for all your contributions to this thread over the years! I did notice that you posted 3.0.2.3 of Batch Config previously here. As you can see from the attachment in my reply to David L I did have 200321_NA_US (Hikvision) loaded on my DB1 at one point. Furthermore, I have confirmed that it supports ONVIF as you state here. According to my notes, one cannot turn off the 'ding-dong' sound at the doorbell with this version (nor with211101!). I am not aware of any particular benefit of HikVision 5.2.4 build 211101 over Hikvision 200321 firmware. I simply assumed that 211101 was newer and selected it on that basis.

One question, (slightly off topic for this thread) are you aware of ANY model of EZVIZ doorbell camera (other than EZVIZ DB1) that will support ONVIF? (Either with EZVIZ firmware or firmware from another reseller).

Kind regards,

MfC

So the link in the 101 was a link that would allow you to download the latest firmware. The link never changed nor the filename, but the file was changed each time they had a new firmware available. Looks like they are not updating that link with the latest firmware since last modified is 2021.

You might approach EZVIZ support and see if they will send you the latest firmware file. Keep in mind EZVIZ is Hikvision, just their Residential product division...glad to see they still support their products...

UPDATE:

If you or anyone else have any other suggestions, I’m all ears.

Thanks again for your help!
Hi again peedubya.

I had some reflection overnight. Your DB1 repair might be quite simple. Have you checked continuity on the FUSE? (second photo in this post) If yes, and it is good then would you mind taking pictures of the marking codes on the chips identified in these two photos? Also please see my previous post for one additional photo request related to the solder connection on the SD Card socket.

Thank-you David L. Yes, I tried all the URLs in 101 (and I also composed my own URLs for other EZVIZ products.)
I came to the same conclusion, the URL is based on model number and the firmware it downloads changes over time. In both the case of HikVision and EZVIZ DB1 the URL does not produce the latest firmware revision.

Of interest, the HikVision URL produces the 200321 which pete_c has used reliably for several years.

The EZVIZ URL in your GET request appears to produce firmware with the same date as the latest HikVision one (I posted the .dav file yesterday) however I would wager that this EZVIV firmware will not support ONVIF. I compared the files, they are quite different.

The compile date for the latest obtainable DB1 firmware on the EZVIZ URL one appears to be Oct 11, 2021. The compile date for the latest HikVision firmware (not obtainable from EZVIZ) that I posted yesterday appears to be Nov 1, 2021.

I enclose screen captures comparing the file header and the compile dates.

On that note, let me just mention that I consider Beyond Compare and essential tool and have purchased it twice on behalf of two different corporations!

Thinking back ONVIF did not work until I enabled it with the batch configuration program. It was only an option on Batch Configuration 3.0.2.3. I did also use a Linux ONVIF editor which only partially worked.

Hi pete_c. Thank-you for advising that Batch Config 3.0.2.3 can manage ONVIF activation on EZVIZ DB1 w/HikVision 200321 firmware.
Thank-you also for posting the ONVIF tool github code repository. I may need to check both these out further!

When I installed HikVision 200321 for DB1 the ONVIF worked upon boot however that was likely due to the fact that I had previously installed HikVision 211101 on my DB1.

Regarding ONVIF, the biggest challenge I had was to know if it was even working, and then to know just what features ONVIF on the camera in question was capable of. I found one Windows solution a tool of dubious provenance. If you know of a more trustworthy Windows based tool please post to this thread (which I created for this new subject.) :)

This version of Batch Configuration is the only one that works for me.

I run Batch Configuration on Windows Standard server 2016. I use mostly Linux these days but do have Windows 11 PCs / Laptops running.

Hi pete_c. I have installed Batch Config 3.0.2.3. An interesting discovery ensued: Apparently due to HikVision being lax about updating the file properties when they make a new build, the Windows properties dialog box is NOT a reliable indicator as to what version of Batch Config one might be running (unless one observes the reported date!)

Case in point, the properties dialog box for Batch Config 3.0.2.6 reports that it is version 3.0.2.3 (however the date reported is May 20 2019 which is the build date for version 3.0.2.6!)

I have determined that a more reliable way to determine what version of Batch Config one is running is to open the "About" box in the app, and then hover over the build number in order to see the full date.

I suspect that (based on the screenshot that you posted above) you may well discover that you are in fact running Batch Config 3.0.2.6 not 3.0.2.3

Furthermore, I inspected both executables. I can locate the build date, as shown in the "about" dialog box (and it is immediately followed by the UTC (ZULU) build time.) I cannot locate the version number in the Batch Config binary but thankfully it is reported in the ABOUT dialog box in the Batch Config App, along with the build date. Therefore, from a chain of custody perspective, we can positively identify the version number, build date and build time (ZULU) of a given Batch Config executable, provided that we can install and run it.

To summarize:

Batch Config Build Ver (From ABOUT)...........Date reported in ABOUT......Date Reported in Properties.......Build Ver Reported in Properties...........Build Date reported in .exe. file
=================================================================================================================
3.0.2.3.........................................................................Jan 10, 2019................................Jan 10, 2019 3:25PM......................3.0.2.3...............................................................Jan 10 2019 08:25:05 ZULU (UTC)
3.0.2.6.........................................................................May 20, 2019..............................May 20, 2019 8:18PM....................3.0.2.3.(What?)..............................................May 20, 2019 12:18:14 ZULU (UTC)

Note the offset between ZULU time and time in the Windows properties box. In Jan it is 5 hours but in May it is only 4 hours. Clearly the build machine is observing daylight savings time which is odd, because DST is not observed in China as far as I am aware. So a mystery! Where is the HikVision doorbell camera code development team located?

Regarding adding a new user and enabling ONVIF, the ONVIF enablement menu is present on both versions of Batch Config. Regarding EZVIZ DB1 firmware 211101 (HikVision) I cannot add a new user. I will have to downgrade to HikVision firmware 200321_na_us_version-zip as you suggested, and see if it works there. Since that could involve Doorbell cover plate removal, I will hold off until peedubya responds to my offer of repair assistance, as I keep losing the dang security screws each time I mess with that cover plate.

Interesting

So I ran 3.0.2.6

What I was able to do is copy the directory/files of the BTC install and run it from another computer. So I tried later versions which, can't remember but certain features had been removed so I just copied the files of 3.0.2.6 back into the install directory and it worked overwriting the new version. I am a big portable fan, don't like installs that up date Windows registry...

So even though I no longer have the Hik doorbell, found BTC still installed on one of my PCs.

Here is a Zip file of 3.0.2.6 that I found in Program Files (x86) directory

Hello David L. !

I have extracted "Batch Configuration.exe" from your zip file. It is BINARY IDENTICAL to the OEM file by the same name from the 3.0.2.6 install archive.

Furthermore, the properties of this file (which are not included in the binary compare) appear to also be identical (and incorrectly report the version as 3.0.2.6 but the date as May 20, 2019 indicating it is actually version 3.0.2.6. )

Incidentally, like yourself, I dislike installs the weave themselves into the target registry. This is somewhat evil IMHO.

Hello pete_c! So you were able to add another user just now to firmware 200321, thus demonstrating this functionality is repeatable on that firmware revision on the EZVIZ DB1 Hardware. Later you will try to add a user on Firmware 211101 on your DB1 but you will have to change firmware on that target to do so. Did I get that right? (and thank-you!)

Hello David L! Thank-you for your brilliant suggestion. TLDR: The result is "HOW TO INSTALL FIRMWARE ON EZVIZ DB1 (POSSIBLY EVEN IF IT IS BRICKED) USING ONLY THE SD CARD"
So I did what you suggested, and got this very nice letter back the next day:
Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to EZVIZ!

Regarding the issue you have encountered, please try to update the firmware and see whether this might help. To upgrade firmware, you will need to prepare an empty SD card, an SD card reader and a PC.

1. First please insert the SD card into the SD card reader and connect the reader to your computer.

2. Log in your email box on your computer, visit https://drive.ticklink.com/hcs/controller/hik-manage/fileDownload?link=7voiSloE& (password: 625z) to download the firmware package and save it in your SD card (When saving, please change the file name to "ezviz.dav").

3. Power off your EZVIZ device, take out the SD card from the reader and insert it back to the camera.

4. Power up device again, and then wait for 3min it will complete the update process automatically.

(If the SD card remains in the device, kindly take it out and ensure to delete the firmware before reinstalling it. Please be aware that upon successful firmware upgrade, the firmware will be automatically removed from the SD card.)

If you have more questions or require further assistance, please let us know. We would love to help.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,

Alesandra

EZVIZ Tech Team
Regrettably, the 'issue' that I wrote in to them about is that the SD card socket on my DB1 appears to be dead. I tried 4 cards (2x128GB (exFAT) 1x32GB (FAT32) 1x2GB and none of them are recognized. These cards are all recognized in other cameras, and I can write to them and format them and read from them.

Whelp, looks like I'm gonna have to pull them darn DB1 security screws out again and give it a shot. (SD Card based firmware upgrade - I doubt it will work on my DB1 however I will then try with Batch Config Tool) I suspect I may need a warranty replacement DB1 which is sad because DB1 no longer in production and none of the successors run ONVIF. Dang. On the plus side, I can try to duplicate pete_c's test outcome with creating new users on DB1 firmware 200321.dav

Anyways, in the meantime, we now have a .dav file of the latest and greatest EZVIZ DB1 Firmware (that does NOT support ONVIF) which was what I originally asked you for - Yay! :)
By the way, this is the exact same version that the EZVIZ phone App asks you to update to if you let it.

As you predicted, HikVision and EZVIZ are one and the same. The file download site sent to me by EZVIZ support cinches the deal. (Attached photo)

Perhaps you should add a sticky to the 101 post that points to this post in case someone needs this version of DB1 firmware, or needs to unbrick their DB1.

(TFTP will not work unless one can find an ethernet port or a serial port on the camera)

Hi pete_c. I used 3.0.2.6 to change DB1 firmware to 200321 (HikVision). I was not able to then create a new user (neither Media nor ADMIN). Screen shots attached. What am I doing wrong?

What I see in the directory for Batch Configuration is 3.0.2.3. When I am running it and look I see 3.0.2.6. I do have it registered on the bottom section of batch configuration. I do not add the user under the ONVIF configuration. I add it under the system user section.

I just checked the details and got 3.0.2.3 too

1752580283251.png

But running BTC it shows 3.0.2.6

1752580160802.png

Good catch but either way this is the one that worked/works for us and many others here...

You could always compare to the new version and see what is different...
