Present to you the smallest intelligent starlight ptz on Dahua's lineup, this is the 25x there is also a 30x available for consumption:
SD52C225U-HNI_Image1 (2).png
This is gong to upgrade Dahua Mini Black Face PTZ (SD29204S-GN) I currently have at my front door, it does NOT have built in IR and I am using external IR illumination.

Note this is a dome and should not be exposed to direct sunlight to avoid UV damage of the plastic, because its recessed this should be pretty easy.. Normally domes are pretty shit outside but since this has no onboard IR and is a recessed model it may be worth the compromise in certain situations.. This also has no water-ingress rating, but with the dome and a lil sealant it should be trivial to seal this up well enough for outdoor use.

It has active cooling fans that may be possible to hear if installed indoors, but overall the mechanics of this PTZ are relatively quiet.. this moving is unlikely to get anyone's attention.

Verdict: Coming soon, but its gonna be good I know :)

Cut Out Diameter: 7in (178mm), it comes with a sticker for tracing it out.

The dome extends about 4in out of the ceiling.

I am glad you asked about the dia. i assumed it was a drop in for a 6" can light.

@nayr why use IR vs an 800 lm 3000K LED and use color?

I guess the 4.8mm will make looking at a guy at the door hard, but the zoom should be great for dialing in his approach to the door.

I dont run my mini-ptz on full wide when something triggers the door, I zoom in on upper half of the body so I get alot of pixels of the face and im sure its ~4-5mm anyhow so no hurt there.. seeing people's feets not need, I got a PTZ.. if I want to see the ground i can just look.. screw wide angles heh.. but yeah, I'd rather have a little on the wider end as Im not going to use the full 120mm in this location

Ive got my Dahua Ultra Starlight Varifocal Bullet (IPC-HFW8232E-Z) running full color mode, this has alot more zoom so its job is to get a 2nd angle w/more detail.. would be stupid for me to leave this in color all night and hurt performance.

plus im not leaving my front door light on all night long, it shuts off at 9pm unless someone opens the door or steps on the mat.

Starlight Turret (AutoExposure, No Backlight, NR@50%)

Starlight PTZ (AutoExposure, No Backlight, NR@50%)PTZ_IP PTZ Dome_main_20170130182653.jpg

quite a bit more variation coming out of AutoExposure on the PTZ than I had expected, but its got alot more options to tweak

ah this camera seems to have a P-Iris on it instead of an Auto-Iris..

here's a comparison w/Manual Exposure: 1/30, Gain: 50%, NR: 50% w/Auto-Iris on the Varifocal and a wide open Iris on the PTZ
NVR_Backyard_main_20170130184234.jpg PTZ_IP PTZ Dome_main_20170130184219.jpg

The PTZ is definitely sharper but not much brighter.

Full Zoom on a target @ ~80ft, pretty damn good for not having any onboard IR, this will do well at my front door

performance of the pro, for the price of the lite.. and its smaller and requires less power than both (wiring up microphone w/PoE splitter will be cake heh)

Here is a direct head to head comparison of the 2MP Black Face Dahua (non-starlight) SD59212S-HN:
NVR_WestPTZ_main_20170130225117.jpg

Starlight:
PTZ_IP PTZ Dome_main_20170130225154.jpg

thats all IR from the Black Face PTZ.. I'm almost certain my Big Black Face PTZ and my Mini-Black Face PTZ are the same image sensors and DSP, since the same firmware file applied to both.. so this is a good idea how much better this will be than the Mini-Black Face PTZ

I am really interested to see/hear how well auto=tracking works on this. I presume it's part of the test plans when mounted at the front door. For me, a back door version would be implemented as well due to living on a corner. Kids love to take short cuts through the back yard to avoid the corner. Maybe I should get a dog?

wow, that is pretty impressive, and there is more zoom left? is that a frosty figurine at the base? if you move the external IR a few feet to the side, does the image only slightly darken but the right plate become totally visible?

It also shows how much improvement there is between these 2 generations of chips with these kind of optics used.(assuming there was not an large improvement on the optics side)

Partially installed, gotta cut the soffit material

looks like the Mini-PTZ heat damaged the siding, sigh.. oh well.. I might replace a few segments instead of putting the old back up.

Here's hoping you never have another drive by shooting like the one last year... but if you do I suspect with these new cams somebody would end up in jail. :)
