Having any camera is better than none at all. But, holly cow, that ReoLink is trash compared to others!

It's true that some newbie will buy the Reolinks. My first set of cameras were by Swann using their NVR. I learned later that they were rebranded HikVision cameras. I then bought an upgraded Swann camera which turned out to be a rebranded ReoLink. Their "Swann" NVR did not work with their upgraded camera. I.e., Swann didn't even like their own cameras.

Thanks for the videos and before and after comparisons. I've been impressed with the recent install of my 5442s, and I'm even more thrilled after seeing your comparisons.

In regard to your videos, it almost looks like the guy is shining some sort of light on the door handles. Do modern cars have an illumination feature there, or is it some electronic thief tool? My cars are from the 80s, so that's not something I would be familiar with either way.

Thanks. I would think that might draw more suspicion, but I'm not a criminal, so what do I know.

3x optical Zoom is the difference

At max zoom 12mm will get you in ID range out to say 35-40 ft

The 32 mm would get you similar ID at approx 100-120 ft at max zoom.

Also note though the trade off is at min zoom it’s also looking 3x as far. So the one that starts out with 2.7mm will be able to see objects say 3.5 ft away while the 8mm would overshoot that and wouldnt see anything closer than about 10 ft away

This is a perfect time to use the IPVM calculator. Change the location to your address and overlay the two camera models. You will see very quickly how they differ and which one might be better for your situation. IPVM Camera Calculator V3

4x zoom is marketing terms - it is the focal length that is important. The Z4E 8-32mm can optically zoom in tighter than the ZE 2.7mm-12mm, but the Z4E also starts at a tighter optical zoom that is closer in starting view to the zoomed in view of the ZE.
