Video Quality and Max Bitrate interplay

The OP tone seemed fine to me. Methinks some do protest too much. Anyway, I can't comment on hikvision cameras specifically but quality is different than bitrate. Size of macro blocks, range of motion estimation, slice usage, how adjacent frames are used, quantization levels, specific...

    Dahua HFW1831E Focus?

I also find the IR falls off a lot towards the edges, even with 6mm lens fov. The hot center means the shadows at night can be dark so I put a thin strip of frosted mylar between the two LEDs to kill the hot spot. The camera exposure is better and illumination much more even.

    Dahua HFW1831E Focus?

Maybe yours aren't stock dahua. What firmware you using? Daytime mine look great right out of the box. Nighttime shadows were a bit dark so brought them up a tad. Cameras have great images, just need a bit of light at night compared to the best.

    Dahua HFW1831E Focus?

It's easy enough to adjust focus. The lens screws in or out to focus. It will be held in place by a screw or glue (or both). But first make sure there isn't something covering the lens (plastic film or something). Or lot of condensation etc. Also if it's out of focus there should be a spot...

IPC-HFW1831E bitrate higher than setting allows

I have two cameras, one still on its original 2.622 firmware and the other upgraded to the latest 2.8 firmware. With default settings on both cameras the 2.622 bit rate varies all over the place, typically showing around 12.5Mbps. This is for a static scene. I don't think it ever got down to...

    New SmartPSS win64

BI has a functional demo and SmartPSS is free so best would be to try them out and decide for yourself since liking one or the other is so use-case and user dependent. I started with SmartPSS and then went to BI. They are a toss-up imo, different ways of doing the same thing. BI has more...

Need help and ideas for tweaking a motion detect situation

Does your Dahua have IVS? I fiddled around with BI motion detection for a while dealing with rain, snow, leaves, headlights, shadows and even neighbors security light going on and off every 10 minutes all night! Switched to IVS intrusion and it worked great. Do make sure regular in camera...

How to bypass video compression in Dahua camera

Since I normally use IVS motion detection I was intrigued by your findings. So I tried this on my 1831E (setup an FTP server and saved to there since it has no SD card). Drastically reducing my video bitrate to 128kbps produced a bad video picture like the one on your left while the IVS...

Reasonable cpu loading with two 8 mp cameras?

So....the licensed version dropped the cpu loading by about 7% across the board (to about 63% with GUI open). Changing "scaling" to Fast (from Bilinear) reduced further down to about 43%. Some investigating indicates base loading for streaming/decoding one camera is about 7% cpu and 9% gpu...

Reasonable cpu loading with two 8 mp cameras?

OK, thanks. Didn't think about the effect of the 4k monitor. Minimizing the GUI drops the loading down to 22% (from 70%). Wow. Does the "limit live preview rate" refer to the limit on each camera stream? Help file doesn't say and I found no posts on the subject. I ask because any value...

Reasonable cpu loading with two 8 mp cameras?

Hi, I'm getting 70% cpu loading with only two 8MP cameras (hfw1831E) running at 20 fps (330mp/s). Seems high but I'm trying the demo version. I've seen the comments on past demo versions about high loading, do we know how v5 demo behaves in this regard? I ask because direct to disc...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

Yes, I experimented with joining the two networks, also tunneling between them and thought about VLANs, All possible but in the end decided to just not bother using gDMSS. IMO it's not worth weakening the security given the entire point is to isolate the cameras. RDP/Teamviewer into the PC...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

As I found out when I did it....gDMSS quits working with the dual NIC setup since it can't see the cams directly. FWIW, It doesn't use P2P (although it sounds like it has the option to do so based on above comment). Certainly there is no need to and I have P2P turned off on my cams. That's...

Confused Noob - Basic PC NVR Setup

Please be more careful in your quoting. Better yet remove my reference from your quote. I have never said there were kickbacks from BI to this site.

Confused Noob - Basic PC NVR Setup

This type of processing works better on raw data streams which are only available in the camera. Also distributing the intelligence scales better for larger systems (their market). I'm surprised programs like BI make you go to an outside 3rd party subscription service when the basic...

Confused Noob - Basic PC NVR Setup

But you are using a 3rd party cloud service since BI can't do it. At least from what I've seen using the demo.

Playing with demo - a few questions

Playing more with BI, getting the hang of it. In the absence of correction, I decided the two points mentioned above are not possible. 3) I also can't find any "instant replay" function. At the moment I'm thinking that's not possible either. Such a handy function. 4) I don't see any "smart...

Confused Noob - Basic PC NVR Setup

I'm playing with the BI demo now, IVS is better imo. More reliable with less fuss. Plus IVS differentiates people, vehicle or regular motion. At least in smartpss it does. BI can't do that at all. Quite a step backwards imho.

Is there any harm in buying cheap cameras on Alibaba or Aliexpress?

BI is definitely turning motion detection back on in my cameras.

Playing with demo - a few questions

I'm trying out the demo and can't figure out how to do the following: 1) Click on an Alert and have all the cameras in the particular group open and play simultaneously. It only seems to open the one camera associated with that alert. But I'd like to see the event from all possible angles...

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

"Quick google"... Really? lol The main thing I never liked about my WIFI + 1 NIC setup (aka dual NIC setup) was my gDMSS phone app no longer worked even at home on my internal WIFI LAN (couldn't access the cameras). Now it can. Cool. The cameras still can't phone home as far as I can see...

HFW-1831E - what really *is* the latest firmware (and do we care...)?

I was hoping to get more responses. Especially given your issue. Maybe there aren't that many hfw1831's out there. Anyone else using them? If so, what firmware? Thanks.

Why can't I access IP camera from different computer (on same LAN)?

Yes, no different than in post #9 when the poe is connected to the router directly. Neither is secure without something upstream blocking the cameras.

Why can't I access IP camera from different computer (on same LAN)?

Following up on this...it turns out Windows can do this after all. Quite easily actually. I just needed to tell Windows to link my Ethernet adapter to the WIFI adapter. That was a simple as highlighting both adapters, right clicking and selecting the option to join them.

HFW-1831E - what really *is* the latest firmware (and do we care...)?

Wow... Hopefully someone else who upgraded to 2.800 will post their results. Hard to believe they'd release such an obviously flawed version (but I'm new and maybe that's par for the course in this industry), anyway maybe something went wrong with your update. Have you tried doing the...

HFW-1831E - what really *is* the latest firmware (and do we care...)?

Hi, I've recently received two HFW-1831E from Andy. They have the jan '19 firmware version 2.62 18 R. The firmware update/check in the web browser claims this is the latest firmware. However I see here ( Firmware) dahua lists 2.62 23 R as the latest firmware. And I see here (4K...

    How to reset IPC-HFW1831EP?

Have you tried rebooting it first? if that doesn't help, then resetting it to Default? (both can be done from the web interface). Otherwise, you have to pry the front plastic piece off (it's just stuck on and there is a pry slot to put a screwdriver blade in or guitar pick to avoid...

Why can't I access IP camera from different computer (on same LAN)?

OK, thanks everyone. Yes, since I had put everything on the same subnet I was expecting Windows to handle the routing between the WIFI LAN and the local Ethernet card/poe switch. Moving the POE switch to the cable modem/router box solves the problem, now all my LAN devices can talk to the...

Why can't I access IP camera from different computer (on same LAN)?

Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Does it really matter though since all the IP addresses have the first 24 bits the same? Regardless, that's what I used. The default gateway for the wifi is the router at 10.0.0.1. That's the only one I knew so put it everywhere it was asked! Is there a...

Why can't I access IP camera from different computer (on same LAN)?

Hi, Complete newbie here...I am trying to setup my IP camera (Dahua HFW1831E). I've read until my head will explode and know just enough to be dangerous. The networking aspect is killing me. I have a dedicated Windows 10 PC connected to my LAN via WIFI (10.0.0.X). I attached a POE switch...
