Solar - need some information if possible

I got solar last year in SoCal. $0.80/kWh peak rated will make anything else a good investment. Now they killed the NEM reimbursement, so batteries are a must in CA if you want to control your electric bills.(for installs since April). Your overall quote $44k for 17kW seems in the ballpark. I...

Camera recommendations for well lit parking lot

Keep tabs on Andy's refurb list. The 4ks are $149 plus shipping when he has a refurb, if I am remembering right.

Dahua Camera Choice - Front of House - Front Door and Driveway

You want the Ipc-color4k-T (assuming by ball, you meant eyeball/turret). Most folks who go Dahua here stick to the 5442 models for 4MP and ipc-color4k models for 8MP, and I think the 5231/5241 for 2MP. I replaced some "lite" 8mp cameras (US rebranded Dahua with 1/2.7" sensors) with the 5442...

EmpireTech latest New firmware, Device Guide video, Manual WEB5.0

Looking at Amazon.co.uk, it doesn't look like EmpireTech-Andy is the seller of any of those cameras. For some they say ship and sold by "Amazon US," so maybe Andy is the indirect seller in those instances, but for the model you purchased, I don't think Andy was the seller. Looks like there are...

    Dahua turret set screw

For small "oddball" things like set screws and short lengths I find local mom and pop hardware stores often have more of what you need vs a big box. Amazon and eBay will always work as well, but there are times I need a screw today, so I try to know where to locally find uncommon fasteners...

Install pipe under concrete driveway for less than 6 bucks!

Without some sort of backfill you would be creating a nice cavity under the concrete that will lead to cracks or sinkholes. Probably not an issue on sidewalks, but I expect you will be shortening your driveway life if you run the pipe in an area you often drive over, or where you actually park...

    Hidden in plain sight

The sign is a legal requirement (can't legally record someone without announcing you are recording them in CA), but there is a camera 9 feet above the sign (under an eave), and two to the right of the sign above the garage. The sign was there before the LPC camera. But those all look at my...

    Hidden in plain sight

My z12e LPC camera is hidden, mostly because it is only 3ft off the ground and aimed away from the house that I felt leaving it in plain sight would draw a complaint from the HOA. (Other cameras are not d

Community Mailbox Vandalism (aka, why I joined the forum)

I have had BI for several years, I always wanted cameras so I could see what was happening and "catch" anything nefarious. Early last month someone broke into the community mailboxes, which I knew my cameras weren't focusing in on, but honestly I was trying to respect my neighbors. There are...

    Junction box ethernet grommet?

Are you using premade cables, or are you going to crimp you own? Premade likely wouldn't fit through the 1/2 in's opening, will it? Also brass to aluminum could induce galvanic corrosion, you should look for a plastic reducer. What environment are you exposing it to? (How much rain? How much...

Blue Iris CPU options - Dell Optiplex i5-6600 or i7-7700 or i5-8500? Recommendations?

I find myself using about 8gb of ram (old system used 50% of 16gb, new system is 27% of 32gb). I think I paid $60 for 32gb of used g.skill ram. I would say 16gb should be more than enough for a dedicated system.

Blue Iris CPU options - Dell Optiplex i5-6600 or i7-7700 or i5-8500? Recommendations?

Although this doesn't directly address your choices, I recently went from a 2nd gen i7 that was consistently using 20-30% cpu to an i7-8700 that used less than 2% of my CPU. (11 cameras, constantly recording to a wd purple drive). So if pricing isn't much high, go with an 8th gen (more...

    Asus Routers Issue - May 17 2023

My asus rt-ac86u was giving me trouble (maxing out memory and losing internet connection), i randomly decided to update the firmware after a few hours and it went away. I never looked into it to realize it was a larger issue than my router.

    Hi from Canada!

Welcome. Be willing to pay for quality. Before I came to the forum, I started off my setup with amcrest (and a few offbrand) cameras, they were $30-100 per camera and did an ok job. It was "impressive" in still images, but the detail (due to wide field of view and mediocre sensors) was in...

    New from FL

Welcome to the forum. Your question on 2.8 vs 3.6 vs 6.0 vs varifocal depends on what you want to see (and why). I had a 2.8 watching the parking near my house, and although I could "see everything", i didn't get details at the cars (maybe 40-60ft from the camera), so I went with a t5442 6mm...

New to the forum looking for help with BI + codeproject AI

Wellcome to the forum. I haven't yet used Codeproject AI, so maybe I am missing the obvious, but what specific issues are you having? I assume your issues are triggers/alerts, but can you confirm the BI portion is working in a basic sense? From there, does it appear everything is "working" but...

Hello all, new to the forum

Hi everyone, I have been lurking for a while and have been playing with IP cams for a decade or so. My current setup is: Blue iris on a 2nd gen i7 (setting up an 8th gen i7 to replace it). Juniper ex200 poe switch (cameras on a vlan that doesn't reach the internet) 1 foscam doorbell (works well...

Where to buy a windows key?

Hi everyone, long time lurker, but this is my first post. I am ringing BI on an old optiplex (i7 gen 2). I just decided to upgrade to a gen 8 i7. I purchased a 3060 SFF from ebay. I knew it had no hdd, but figured I could throw a ssd in and because it was an oem computer the windows key would...
