Getting the hang of it
Hi everyone, I have been lurking for a while and have been playing with IP cams for a decade or so.
My current setup is:
Blue iris on a 2nd gen i7 (setting up an 8th gen i7 to replace it).
Juniper ex200 poe switch (cameras on a vlan that doesn't reach the internet)
1 foscam doorbell (works well enough, despite being wifi)
Several amcrest ip8m-t2499/2599s
A T5442 6mm
2- 5442e-z4e
A few other random cameras (older amcrest/off brand)
And I have a 5241e-z12e on the way that will be for plate reading.
I record direct to disk and honestly rely on neighbors telling me that something happened for me to find it on camera. Bi is triggering events, but I currently don't bother with notificiations.
Previously, I was chasing mp, not sensor, so there were a few instances recently where my cameras "caught" things, but not clearly enough to do anything. Prime example someone broke into the community mailboxes 150ft from ym house. My ip8m-2499 caught the perp driving up, parking, breaking in and taking everyone's mail, but the camera couldn't get a plate number, or a clear image.
So, I added the 6mm 5442 to get a clearer view over there, I replaced one of the amcrests with a 5442-z4e to get a clearer view of parking and I am slowly tweaking camera settings to get better images, and/or considering camera replacement to get more meaningful videos.
