    PoE Switch Suggestion List

a managed switch allows you to 'partition' the switch into multiple networks known as VLANs. most IPcam networks just use one network for a whole big batch of cameras, and the camera addresses are all in the same subnet, and are statically assigned per camera when you set the cam up. if you...

Is there a bullet camera with 25x-30x zoom?

even focal length is meaningless without also knowing the imager size. extreme example, but on my 2-1/4 x 2-3/4" film camera (55x70mm), 120mm is just slightly longer than 'normal', while on a 35mm full frame camera (24x36mm), 120mm is a medium long portrait or short telephoto lens, and on an...

    SHORT focal range camera?

I think my friend is going to give this one a try. https://green-backyard.com/collections/bird-box-camera/products/long-range-wireless-outdoor-ip-bird-box-camera/ While the owl box is on a little used workshop a few 100 feet from his house, its right next to a source of 120V power, so running...

    SHORT focal range camera?

a friend has an application for a camera that can take extreme closeups, like 6 inches to 2 feet, with a wide angle lens, and good night vision with minimal IR. I thought a IPC-T5442T-AS 2.8 would work, but they say minimum focus is 4.3 feet, which is just too far, and I suspect the 1-2 foot...

Millions of APC Smart-UPS devices vulnerable to TLStorm

the little PP connectors like I'm using are good up to 45 amps, they make larger PP connectors for 100s of amps, but certainly, they are for DC applications, I've never seen more than 48VDC used with them when I wired up my wife's ebike, I didn't like the supplied connectors they used for the...

Millions of APC Smart-UPS devices vulnerable to TLStorm

OT, but I got a 2000W Pure SIne inverter from Renogy and installed it in my RV. Right now, it just powers a dedicated outlet(*). I'm amazed, with no load, switched on, it only draws about 1 amp from my 12V lithium system. Powering my wife's 1850 commercial grade hair dryer on high, it...

Millions of APC Smart-UPS devices vulnerable to TLStorm

$JOBs used APC UPSs for years, mostly SmartUPS in the 1200-3000 VA range... I experienced way too many battery over-charges, 2-3 year old batteries all swollen due to lack of proper charge management. I'm a big fan of Eaton PowerWare UPS, especially the online true sine wave ones.

    IR light rope

my 30 degree spot has 3 focused LEDs, and I put diffuser* tape over two to better balance the foreground. the beam is aimed at that 'tree cave' of a driveway entrance. * ok, 2-3 layers 3M/Scotch "Magic Tape"

    IR light rope

for 60-120+ feet I use a 30 degree IR spotlight, but I'm also using a 12mm lens (ipc-t5442t-ze at max zoom), and I have a flood light for the closer stuff.

    IR light rope

most transparent/translucent plastics pass 850nm IR just fine that first one you linked says its 7.2 watts per meter, and thats 30 LEDs, so the individual LEDs are .25 watts each, a full 5m strip of these would be 36 watts, 3 amps at 12V, thats a lot of light. you can't measure IR in Lumens...

Two POE Cams Over One Ethernet Cable

cute, takes a high power PoE+ (802.3at) input, and splits that to 4 low power PoE (802.3af) ports. PoE+ can provide 25 watts, while PoE is max 15 watts, but obviously if you are sharing that 25 watts with 4 devices, they can't be more than 6 watts each (probably a watt or so runs the switch...

    POE Switch Recommendations ??

I have this cheap noname switch and had zero problems with it so far. internal power supply, I opened it up, it seemed well made to my retired engineering eyeballs. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B099PK5NPG/ this has 8 PoE+ gigE ports plus 2 passthrough gigE ports, which makes it perfect...

Two POE Cams Over One Ethernet Cable

OTOH, a 3 port 100baseT switch is a tiny chip now, and if the cameras only need a few watts each, and teh PoE source can provide more than enough watts for both, then yes, you can do the single PoE cable into two PoE connections using an active cable adapter with a cheap switch chip encapsulated...

Two POE Cams Over One Ethernet Cable

normal 10/100baseT connection only uses RJ45 pins 1-2-3-6 (1 and 2 are the orange pair, 3 and 6 are the green pair), pins 4-5 and 7-8 aren't in use. Cat 5/6 cables have all 8 wires, 4 pairs. So the '2nd' POE cable has its orange and green wired to the blue and brown pairs 'main' cable...

Two POE Cams Over One Ethernet Cable

My guess is, that adapter just connects two 100baseT 2-pair poe ports over a single 4 pair cat 5/6 wire. It should work, most all cameras are 100baseT only, and even if thjey are gigE, they don't /need/ gigE speeds.

I have a Microlight IR Helios 30 degree spotlight, that works very nicely and is nicely made. I've had it 4 months now, so can't talk about long term reliability yet. the light quality is very good, even 30 degree cone with well defined edges, almost no illumination outside that. its off...

that looks like a very large house cat to me, not a cougar/puma/mountain lion/panther. this is a young puma, west coast style. local puma tracker folks had just tagged him, and said he was an 85 lb young male. I know the Florida subvariety run a little smaller, but still, they move...
