Cameras suitable for install in two-gang low voltage box

I was thinking inside the box. Perhaps it would have to be a purpose-built camera, so this coudl be a long term project until such time that Dahua or someone else thinks its worth their while.

Cameras suitable for install in two-gang low voltage box

I have two-gang low voltage boxes in some locations, that contain an audio control pad for ceiling speakers. The boxes already have ethernet runs, over which the controls communicate with the audio controller. Am thinking of repurposing the 2G LV boxes and the existing ethernet runs for cameras...

New internet service coming - VPN options

Many have opined here that better to have your VPN run on your own device(s), if possible. Yes, Starlink is CGNAT (I did look up the SpaceKaren reference).

New internet service coming - VPN options

I use a Ubiquiti Unifi Dream Machine, which is a capable unit, and am hoping to stay with it. Even with Starlink, I put the router that came with the kit aside, and use my own UDM. We (neighbors) signed up for a "bulk purchase" with Spectrum, for what started as a 7.5 year term and ended up...

New internet service coming - VPN options

Sounds like a router based VPN will become possible, which seems to be the preferred option around here.

New internet service coming - VPN options

Currently I have Starlink Internet service, and over the last few days got Blue Iris remote access working with zerotier and UI3 – thank you those who mentioned zerotier, posted a link to a helpful video, and noted that UI3 does most everything to use BI remotely. Over the next couple of months...

    Preferred method for adding camera

Changed the default H.265 to H.264 yesterday, several hours later when it was dark it did not appear to have helped and the image was still flickering both in BI as well as at the camera. So I thought that when it was daylight outside I'd get up on the ladder, reset, and see what happens. Then...

    Preferred method for adding camera

Thanks, physical reset seems to have been the historical preference, and continues to be. I'll try the reset after seeing the results of changing to H.264 as @SpacemanSpiff suggested.

    Preferred method for adding camera

It was in H.265 and I changed it to H.264 ... thanks. That must have been the default. I'll check it tonight and see what happens.

    Preferred method for adding camera

Is there a preference between: - Physical button reset on camera, and - Browser interface of camera - Setting - Default - Factory default Also, should I mess around with firmware update? Camera is a a Feb 2023 purchase from Andy's Amazon store.

Is mobile app purchase necessary for each device accessing Blue Iris PC

I got UI3 working, and am reporting it here in case this helps somebody else who finds their way here. For some time I could not browse to the IP address of my BI PC, with the port appended to the IP, as called for by the BI manual. Seemed like this should just work, but wouldn't, and this alone...

    Preferred method for adding camera

Odd results in night video from T5442T-ZE. Previously it produced a steady-image video, now the image flickers, but only at night. Daytime image is great. Best as I recall it was flickering when I browsed directly to the camera, though will check tonight to be sure. I don't think I changed any...

    Preferred method for adding camera

Odd that initially BI would find my cameras, now it doesn't and goes with generic. Thanks for the response, helpful to know I should just go with it.

    Preferred method for adding camera

I changed assigned static IP addresses on two cameras that were still at default. I deleted the cameras in Blue Iris, and added them (was not necessary since they update in BI, was largely to learn/repeat how to add a camera). First camera is an Amcrest T2669 (then I found my way to this forum)...

Installing a two lens camera at front door

Once the camera is in my hands, will have a better feel of how to proceed. Have abandoned the idea of cutting off the pig tail. Now less reluctant to drill a hole through the wall for the pigtail. Will have to surface mount on the inside to transition from pigtail to ethernet, because the wall...

Is mobile app purchase necessary for each device accessing Blue Iris PC

Thanks. UI3 sounds promising, in the meantime.

Installing a two lens camera at front door

Generally I prefer to retain original setup of hardware, however, in this instance ... What would happen if I snipped off the pigtail, fed the cable through a small hole, and punched the cable into a keystone type port you would put in a wall plate in premise wiring?

Is mobile app purchase necessary for each device accessing Blue Iris PC

Thanks - I had a feeling I had missed something related to remote access. Didn't know about UI3, will investigate. I followed the zerotier youtube video from another thread, and (mis)undersood that you have to have the mobile app. Neither of the above points is important to me, at least so far...

Is mobile app purchase necessary for each device accessing Blue Iris PC

Is it the case that for each mobile device accessing the Blue Iris PC over the web, the mobile app has to be purchased? Assume the access is using zerotier or similar VPN.

Installing a two lens camera at front door

What is a good way to install a two-lens front door camera (boobie-cam)? It needs to be installed on a wall that is masonry, behind which is solid lumber framing, so no wall cavity. Between the bulk of the camera, and a box behind it to accommodate the pigtail, that’s quite a bit sticking out...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

Nice job. Got to get power there if putting in a switch. Nothing beats having known a lot more up-front, running many more ethernet runs to many locations and to many heights, when there was the opportunity. Next time ...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

@ron351 Snipping/breaking off the ears would sure make for a neater install. At the time not knowing that there are camera boxes, I installed a metal exterior junction box at my first location. So I was looking for a way to use the same holes with anchors for a box better suited for camera...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

I like that. Happen to have one of those laying around except it has four ears. I prefer the two ears in the image you attached. Those may even match the holes for the round box I had put in, after tapping in plastic anchors into the soffit. Thanks. Just checked - Holes on the round two-ear...

Installing ethernet wire from 14-foot eaves soffit to 8-foot camera height

Could try a spade bit, aka paddle bit. For larger holes, a hole saw may be useful. Also depends on material you are sawing through and condition of bit.
