Thanks. I’ve never heard of that brand but I’m sure it’s good, thanks for recommending them. In years past I’ve purchased Monoprice because of their quality. I’ve finally found a switch ( Netgear GS324TP ) that is priced fairly for a POE.
The largest complaint was the fan noise but going from FW...
I’d don’t mind buying a quality switch but don’t want to pay double or triple the price for a little wattage. I believe the Dahua 5442 series pulls 7 watts.
There was nothing wrong with having a separate power supply. They were marketed when CCTV was was the standard by brands like that...
Take a basic 16 port switch and add POE+ and they add $150 -$200 to the price tag .
An IP camera can be powered by POE or 12V DC adapter, 12V DC is 12V DC. That why I was considering running Cat6 & 18 AWG wire with the correct male pigtail.
Every channel is protected by a fuse to protect your...
Funny you should mention that. I actually checked EBay for high end switches last night to see what was available. I scored a great deal on an Optiplex there so it’s worth a look.
I live by the saying the cheap comes out expensive. I try not to buy anything more than once. Netgear offers a 5 year warranty on the prosafe switch I was looking at but this one is only 3 years. I'll look into quality 4 port switches. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.
Well the power supply I'm talking about will handle 16 channels and 500ft of wire is $50
But you've helped so thank you. I'll just add 1 4 port switch at a time as I build out my system.
They say buying cameras is more addicting than drugs and you never have enough so I want to leave room for the future. I'm going to run Cat6a for data to My network but don't want to pay a fortune for a POE switch. So do you think the 18AWG stranded wire
Unshielded and not twisted would power...
Can i run 18 AWG wire and power the Dahua 5442 series instead of buying a switch with 16 poe ports.
Dahua sells power supplys for this purpose and I can buy the pigtails And wire from Amazon
That’s good to hear, thanks for sharing that. With zero experience with a surveillance system I didn’t know what
To expect. I would hate to have needed
A more robust system when this one just
Arrived.
Thanks again
I still haven’t decided on a camera yet because I’ve been searching and reading on the forums here. I only know 6 cameras should cover the outside based on the calculator I used that was surprising in the newbie guide lol. I wanted to figure on the high end of things so I used 8MP x 6 cameras...
While I returned the system The Hook Up spoke so highly of I ended up buying the same PC he suggested
That arrived yesterday.
