PTZ5A4M-25X Tracking issues - Dahua SD5A425GA-HNR

I have the 5A4k25x with the same FW V3.200.0000018.2.R, Build Date: 2024-06-17 like jmcu.

For day time, I set Contrast 58, Brightness 50, WDR 10%, PFA :ON. size ratio at 40.

The ptz tracks well most of the time. But it likes car tires more than people a little too much sometimes and might switch to tires from a person while tracking. (Not all the time)Also it might swing wildly if the target is too fast when a person is on fast a motor bike and the camera can't keep up.(Probably due to the height is not tall enough) It's not perfect, but I'm happy with the ptz overall.

Those are very close to my settings with Contrast at 54

I'm just used to and got spoiled on the 6 series which makes this one look like a toy.

For someone who this is their first PTZ its easy to get excited about tracking. But even the mini-PTZ tracks better than this one.

First video with the couple walking toward the camera at about 120-150 ft and then losing them for no reason is the worst in my opinion

And yeah the Aliens are bad right now ..

The first one with the couple walking toward the camera, it seems the camera got bored after so long and went back to the resting preset

Yes if you consider 23 seconds of tracking in ideal conditions too long.

Tracking is set for 90 seconds

No excuse

I don't consider it ideal, I think there is an issue with the auto tracking. Unless the target moves out of range (clearly not the case in this instance), the camera should track for the set amount of time before returning to home preset, at least in theory

It looks like you are doing a screen record to get your IVS rules and triggers in the capture, but how do I get them included in the downloaded file? I did this with my mini PTZ, but can't figure it out with the new one.

Good question!

Update:

Myself and @jmcu have been playing with it the past few days and have made some progress.

Things that seem to have made improvement:

1- Enabling WDR contrary to most PTZs and most cameras as far as detection where contrast helps the camera see and determine targets, enabling WDR at 20-25 which creates LESS contrast (softens or equalizes light/dark areas as WDR is intended to do) actually helps this camera in detection and tracking
---> Notice how @jcmu 's samples from his 4K version are flatter and less contrasty than mine.

2- JMCU removed a couple of my IVS rules. This actually improved tracking. Again this is counter to most of my other cameras. Removing a tripwire within an Intrusion box greatly helped tracking in that zone.

3- One thing I think would probably help also is raising the height, unfortunately that's not an option on this placement. This may indeed logically extend its range

---------------
Results from 14 hours yesterday
This was a "no trashcan" day and workday so limited (down 30%-50% on traffic)

Total good detection's - 130
Wrong/false targets detected and tracked (mostly vehicles and a few aliens) - 21
Good tracking of human detection's - 87
Lost tracking on valid target (humans only) after properly detecting and tracking for no good reason - 12
Misses (defined as a valid detection, but camera could not find the target)- 20
Mulligans (Due to the speed or short duration of target visibility I gave the camera the benefit of the doubt) - 8

So Conclusions:

1- The busier the scene the more this camera struggles with finding the target.
2- With clear open spaces it performs well out to 200-250ft or so, beyond that the complexity of the scene greatly effects its accuracy. If you have open fields/farm, limited 150ft street scene, or just not a lot of clutter, it will be adequate for most needs.
3- Contrast affects are somewhat opposite of what you think as normal for detection and tracking. Less contrast /flatter image seems to improve its accuracy
4- Complex IVS rules seem to be detrimental to its accuracy. My 6D series even my Mini don't seem to reflect this. I run multiple IVS rukles on most of my scenes without problem on fixed and PTZ cameras.

Detection was never really the issue with this cam. Tracking and finding the target, and proper id of target was the problem and continues to be.

Its better. It may even be "acceptable" I haven't quite decided. But its not Awesome

Good track as expected at about 120-150ft

Now that I have discovered I can attach and embed videos, this is much easier...

My scene is different than the others in this thread because it is mostly Left <> Right, but these are some of the issues I am having:

Losing tracking, target ratio seems to work in reverse (zooms out on target as they walk away), jumpy/jittery motion during tracking as if you were cranking 2 hand wheels independently.

This one loses tracking twice.

Locks on to the lawn mower, and tracks it.

Tracks the golf cart. Yes, I understand there are people in it, but typically it shows them as the target and not the cart.

Thanks a lot for your trying out buddy! @bigredfish , Now i am focus on working with ri22o for improving his ptz.
If you have any good idea, please share here, thanks a lot!

Mine still kinda sucks just sucks a little less

One very common thing I see in losing track is that it ALWAYS 99% of the time loses the target while fading off to the LEFT.

Andy I think they sent you a bunch of liberal PTZs ..or mebbe from their California warehouse?

I found 55 to be the sweet spot for my tracking target ratio fyi
