Hitting cameras web pages with a laptop in an NVR with POE

I was wondering,

With my new Dahua 4 channel poe NVR (4104p)

under the Network Tab there is a Switch setting which seems to control the cameras subnet IP, can I just change this to another address - one that I can access the cameras through my web browser?

(cant seem to see any "virtual host")
No, it won't work. Moreover, even on a normal PC LAN subnet you may create problems by doing this. The method that I described previously works really well, is stable and gives you access from any PC without needing to take a laptop and connect it to the NVR' LAN
Cheers

No my suggestion doesn't work as you cant assign the same subnet,

I have tried some of the posters solutions here and cant get any of them to work - perhaps I am doing it wrong?

all I really want to do is access my SD card data

The solution that I suggested should certainly work. Perhaps you are doing something wrong or the way I described it is not very clear? If you want, I can help you to set it up properly. The only thing you need is an additional router as basic as possible and your main router should give you the possibility to set up a "static route". Just let me know and I'll be more than happy to help :)

Thanks for the offer, hopefully one day (waiting for useless NBN to connect me up) I will get a new VSDL modem so the router I have now will be doing nothing

I paid about $15 for a tiny router that does this job so I can access the cameras behind the NVR. Apart of this, the router has to have Ethernet connections on both LAN and WAN sides, not ADSL/VDSL (phone) line. Something like this would do, you may disable the WiFi as you do not need it: 300Mbps Wireless-N Repeater Network Router WiFi Signal Range Extender Booster | eBay

Yes the router I have now used to be connected to my now defunct satellite modem so should work fine

I figured I'd make a new post for this. It's nothing particulalry new and I certainly didn't invent this wheel! But I was taught how to do it and I want to pass it on to other people who have NVR's with built in POE. There IS a way to hit the cameras web pages directly, right through the NVR, with a laptop or netbook- or even a desktop if that's handy as well. You may never need to do this if you like what you see by default from your cameras. But if you ever need to get into their web service pages directly, this is a cool and easy way to do it.
I thought it might be interesting for some users, that Dahua added a port forwarding functionality to their new firmware. So now it is possible to access cams behind NVRs PoE ports. I don't know if they did this to all new firmwares or will do this in future. I've got a NVR5232-16P-4KS2 and with the new NVR5xxx-4k firmware it works like a charme.

With the new firmware it's finally also possible to access the cameras WebUI through the NVR. So no more need to plug a laptop to the NVRs PoE ports or some stuff like that. I really appreciate that new feature!
Just click the browser symbol in the NVR WebUI to access your cams WebUI

The NVR does a portforwarding on port 10080 etc.

I have just checked on the dahua site and the firmware notes for my 4101p says one of the new functions is IPC Visiting which I think you are referring to. Will try to download it tomorrow. Hope it works because that will be really good.

Yep, seems it's called IPC Visiting. Didn't had release notes for my NVR, because the firmware is still not listed there :(

I have just discovered I have the cheaper older? 4104p and not the 4104p-4sk2, 5m as opposed to 8m camera support and dual core as opposed to quad.

Correction,

Actually while the firmware file is much smaller for my NVR(13meg and 40 meg respectively ) it does in fact support camera web interface directly

the only problem now is the update seems to have killed one of my cameras - another problem to sort out

If you mean where is it on the NVR web interface?

on my NVR the menu under Settings, Camera has been relabelled as registration where it shows the cameras connected and at the right hand side you have a web browse symbol - woohoo direct link - love this new feature

If this works in the same way as the Hikvision NVR 'Virtual Host' facility - it may open up the ability to fully access the PoE-connected cameras from the LAN, independently of the NVR web GUI, as can be done with Hikvision NVRs.

If you'd like to try an experiment - what are the PoE-connected camera IP addresses and default gateway set to, and what is the IP address of the NVR PoE interface?
