I bought five 5231's and one 5831 camera Nov 2018 which all have the same firmware ... V2.622.0000000.31R build 2018-08-13. The strange thing is I see Dahua website shows older firmware on their product page for these two cameras ... how do I have newer firmware than the site and do I have the latest?

V2.622.0000000.18.R.20171110 for 5231 ... IPC-HDW5231R-ZE
V2.622.0000000.18.R.20171110 for 5831 ... IPC-HDW5831R-ZE

If you bought from Empire Tech he takes care of us and gets us firmware before it is available...

Dahua rarely posts the latest firmware on their public website. If you check Andy's vendor forum on here, there are newer versions of the firmware than what yours are running. It's always best to read the replies to firmware upgrade threads to see if folks have experienced any issues with the firmware version listed in that thread, ... some have bugs.

Yeah, looking back at that thread I don't see release notes either (other than Andy's "bug fix" comment). Sometimes there's more info, sometime's not.

In this case, since there's no specific mention of new features or bug fixes for broken features I'll leave well enough alone so my cameras continue to perform as expected ... no need to worry about security risks when you've them connected to their own ethernet port on a BI server with their own VLAN ID. :)

If cameras working good, then no need to update the firmware. Dahua will update firmware every 2-3 months, sometime for new product they release more frequency.

Only update firmware if you absolutely need to or if a common issue was addressed in a newer firmware update ;)
