Using SD card only for motion capture, standalong operation? Possible?

Getting the hang of it

For the Hikvision cameras with built in SD card, can I use it to capture motion triggers automatically to the SD card and have it overwrite old data when full in a standalone install?

Background - I have some cheap Dlink 930 cameras and love them other than their narrow FOV. I also have a FLIR FX camera - love the clarity, WIDE FOV, hate the motion triggers at night when nothing is going on. I only use these cameras to email me snapshots pre/post trigger events. If the email looks interesting, I go to the FLIR FX app and look at the 1.5 min video capture to see what really happened.

Problem is the FLIR FX, I cannot go back very far as the log is filled with triggers at night when nothing is happening. Not so keen on the data going into the cloud, the logging isn't very long with the free service and power consumption is high. Another oddity is when viewing a live image, it won't save motion triggers.

So, here's what I'd like:
- Keep the Dlink cameras to email me when something happens (could get rid of them if the Hikvision does this job well)
- Add a Hikvision with onboard SD card (dome, bullet or turret). Set it up to record motion to the SD card and when full overwrite the oldest data.
- If I see something interesting from the Dlink camera, remote into the Hikvision, pull up the video and watch it. If interesting, download the video to a local drive.

- Will a Hikvision 2032F-I do this? What about one of the turrets? (I don't see any that come in an 'F' version).
- can I set a pre and post trigger record time?
- any particular FW version to get or avoid?

Thanks in advance.

Yes the hikvision will do this. There is no turret with SD card. The bullet will be a china region only camera. If you want to use the sd card with no issues, get a US region camera from a US vendor. There is a thread where there were some issues with the 2032F and recording to SD.

Thanks for the info on the turret not having an SD card - I can stop looking now :)
You mention the bullet is china region only but then say I should get a US region camera. This one claims to be english region. Would it be affected by the 2032F problem?

That is a china region camera that was hacked. That one must be really old stock because the newer version cannot take new firmware (as the seller claims). Once its hacked, you are stuck with old firmware.
For 30 bux extra you can have a warranty and a US region camera.
Seems like nellys has the bullet as well..though I have never seen a US region bullet F model..you can message

Also note that the 2032F has a large POE brick on the pigtail (may not be an issue if you are using a junction box)
Looks like there may be an international version that will take US firmware...

Thanks, I was wondering if that large brick was the POE converter.

Arrgh, so confusing, been wanting a Hikvision camera for a while but couldn't justify setting up a powerful PC to run BI for my meager needs. Once I found a possible standalone solution with the SD card I'm ready to buy but really don't want a dome - it's a bit of an eyesore and I keep reading about possible IR reflection problems.

Nelly's shipping quote service is broken tonight but when I've priced stuff from Milkisbad, shipping added another almost $20 to the price. The delta in price is now about 2x that of a Chinese version.

I think I'll give an international version a try - if only I knew which model and fw to get.

Normally with BI i would say get the cheaper version because the firmware doesnt really matter as long as it sends a proper stream. In your case since you specifically want the SD card, I would not take the risk.
Nellys have the bullet and the dome...
Dont forget about the discount for ipcamtalk members https://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread.php/1807-IPCT-Members-Only-Promo!
You need to figure how much your time is worth dealing with issues with recording to the card.
If you can use a 2.8mm lens then i would recommend the 4mp dome. Personally I think a bullet is much more of an eyesore than a dome - that is subjective.

Thanks - yes a 2.8mm could work. The Flir FX has 160 deg FOV, nice that I can cover 3+ house widths on my street. Image is exceptional but it's the rest of the stuff it doesn't do well. Does the dome not have the POE brick?

The dome does not have the brick. Only the F model bullet has it (regular bullets do not)...
Side note, the 160 FOV on the flir is diagonal..hikvision numbers are horizontal...so the flir numbers are inflated...its closer to 130 or so...
If you want max fov, get the 2.8 4mp dome...

I've run 3mp 2132 dome Chinese hacked 5.2.5 3mp and a 4mp International version red box 2142 dome with 5.3.3 version for 6 months into 64Mb Apache SD Cards and it works brilliantly.

At one point I was getting 6 weeks worth of recording, however this is a holiday home that we are only at once every 2 weeks, but the driveway is shared.

I run motion, line detection and intrusion detection, and caught the car and number plate that hit my fence and didn't leave a note .

The 3mp is 2.8mm about 90 degree horizontal FOV (plenty of guidance on the web), and the 4mp is a 4mm reduced 70 degree FOV.

I've got another 4mp 2142 dome to support out the 3mp 2132 as the night vision is slightly better as my driveway has little light. Suggestion from fender.

SD card in my opinion is a good way to get protection, and get familiar with cams before you tackle the NVR integration which I am starting to do now.
