Underground PoE to Reolink, dead 5th vein, can I rewire?

Hello,

For some, it might be a dumb question, but I want to be sure how to approach it. I have an in-house PoE switch. Some time ago, contractors broke the underground cable going to one of my Reolink cameras. They requested help from an external specialist, who rewired it. In short, he connected the veins and isolated the cable. It was working well for a few months, but recently the camera went dormant.
From time to time, I manage to get a few seconds of connectivity, but that's it. I checked with an RJ45 meter that vein 5 does not receive a signal. The question is, can I rewire, for example, vein 8 to vein 5 somewhere to make it work?

My setup:
1. Poe Switch
->
2. RJ45 connector to cable
->
3. Cable goes underground
->
4. Cable is connected and isolated underground in the place it was broken (I bet there lays the issue with the 5th vein)
->
5. Cable goes to RJ45 connector,
->
6. Connector goes to Reolink RJ45 adapter,
->
7. Reolink adapter goes to camera.

Any idea where and how I could reconnect? 100mb will be fine for this camera, it's only 5mpx. I was thinking to switch veins 5 and 8 on step 2 and step 5.
Thanks in advance!

If at all possible, using all 8 conductors, properly paired and terminated to T-568B specs on both ends would be the best.

IOW, I would locate where it was previously repaired, remove the old splice and have it repaired again but this time insure that a better, longer-lasting repair is done. Not knowing how it was previously repaired casts doubt on its reliability. Consider a purpose-built, waterproof Ethernet cable splicing kit or at the very least, install new RJ-45 male connectors to T-568B specs, use dielectric grease and plug them into a waterproof coupler.

HI @bugmenot

Sounds like possible corrosion on the splice

note : for those planning to run underground cables, if you can - put them in a PVC conduit and run an extra cat5e/6 cable .. while it is hard to be fully "contractor" protected, the conduit will help vs physical damage .. also remember to use burial rated cable .. water likes to get into underground conduits ..

Thanks @TonyR, gonna have more construction in summer done, so I will take care of that then with the connector you've sent. In the meantime, makes sense to try to re-wire it as I've mentioned?

Depending on what POE powering scheme/mode the cam is using, the 4/5 pair (blue & blue/white) are used for DC+ and the 7/8 pair (brown/white & brown) are for DC - so it's not clear why missing one half of the pair (wire # 5) for DC + would not allow the cam to operate, at least at a short distance.
