Third Party IP Camera on Hikvision NVR

Hi, I had a Dahua NVR with 4 cameras and the NVR crapped out, so I have replaced it with a new Hikvision NVR. I have retained the existing 4 POE cameras that I have and intend to connect them to the new NVR.

I have dismounted one camera and I have it in hand. The existing cameras are Dahua IC-IP9113-28 (HDW 1320S), POE, ONVIF compatible. I performed a hard reset on the camera to restore the factory defaults. With the camera in hand and connected to my router through a switch and POE injector, I was able to access the camera using the Dahua Config Tool. I could see the camera with IP 192.168.1.108. Using the Config Tool I changed the camera IP to 192.168.254.2. I also changed it’s password to xxxx123?? and left the username as admin. However, I was unable to go to that IP address to see the camera. This is one point where I am stuck. Ideas?

In any case, I then took the camera and plugged it into POE port #1 of the NVR (with no other camera plugged into the NVR). In the camera setup screen of the NVR, I edited camera #1 in Manual mode with IP 192.168.254.2, ONVIF, username=admin and password xxxx123?? At that point the NVR gave the error message “username or password incorrect”. So this is the other point where I am stuck. Ideas?
 
Can you see the camera on your network anywhere?
I'm no expert on networks but my router is set to allocated IP's as 192.168.2.xxx and if I set the IP on my cameras to, for example, 192.168.3.xxx then I cannot locate them on the network or log into them. I had to reset them by fixing my IP on my PC to 192.168.3.xxx to access them.

Try a simpler password on the camera without the '??'
Maybe the Hikvision NVR does not allow those special characters.
 
If the DVR cannot see it on the camera list then you have a network problem most likely related to the IP address used. IF the DVR can see it (ie not a manual settings job) then you have a username/password issue.
 
OK, having seen others on the internet having trouble connecting 3rd party IP cameras to the Hikvision NVR, I decided to abandon the attempt to connect the cameras to the NVR POE ports. I ran out and bought a POE switch.

First, I double checked with the Dahua config tool that the camera IP is 192.168.1.108 with password xxxx123. I confirmed that. Then I hooked the camera to a POE port of the new switch then connected the NVR and the main network cables to non-POE ports on the same switch (switch has 4 POE ports and 4 non-POE). Then I logged into my router and I could indeed see the IP of the NVR (192.168.1.64) and the IP of the camera (192.168.1.108). Looking good!

Then I logged into the NVR. I deleted all cameras on the NVR and used the “Custom Add” button to add a camera. In the camera editing screen of the NVR I gave the camera IP 192.168.1.108, ONVIF, and the password xxxx123. However, the NVR came with the error: “The username or password is wrong”.

I had previously verified using the Dahua config tool that the camera password is xxxx123 (it would not let me login until I used that password). So I am stuck again. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
 
Maybe verify that the ONVIF capability is active. Does it needed to be enabled like the newer Hikvision devices, with its own userid?
ONVIF Device Manager from sourceforge.net will show you if its responding as an ONVIF Device.

I have an old Hikvision DS-7204HWI-SH, and I too cannot add an alternative IP Camera but in my options I can only choose Hikvision PROTOCOL type.

So I take it that my DVR is limited, would like to know if you sort your issue out.

Also, IP addresses work in hand with the subnet mask and gate way.

So a device with an IP address of say 192.168.0.108 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 can only see other devices that are connected on the same network/vlan which have an IP address between 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.254. This part I can help with
 
OK no luck yet. Since the camera is 5 years old I decided to upgrade the camera firmware which I found on the Dahua site. I verified that the camera accepted the firmware update again updated the password to xxxx123 and checked to see that ONVIF was enabled.

Per someone’s suggestion I downloaded the sourceforge ONVIF Device Manager (same download is recommended by Dahua on their website). When I launched it,it showed the camera’s IP 192.168.1.108 on the left hand side of the screen, however on the right hand side none of the click buttons showed anything about the camera (eg. Identification button resulted with error: “The remote server returned an unexpected response. Network Setting button resulted with error: “Sender not authorized”. So it does not seem that it is working properly. Got same result prior to and after camera firmware upgrade.

Then, with the camera plugged into the POE switch I tried again to “custom add” the camera and got the error “network is unreachable”. Then I plugged the camera into the NVR and tried again to “custom add” it and got the error “username or password is wrong”.

Then, I went back using the Config tool and changed the camera IP to 192.168.254.2 and gateway 192.168.254.1 and plugged the camera back into the NVR. Again, got the error “username or password is wrong” (even though I used the same password for the camera and in the NVR when trying to add the camera – password xxxx123)

Then, I plugged the camera back into the switch and launched the ONVIF Device Manager again. When I logged into the Device manager as admin, admin, it did not see the camera. So I logged in again to the Device Manager using admin, xxxx123 and it could see the camera on the left hand side of the screen (with IP 192.168.254.2). However, on the right hand side of the Device Manager screen it gave the error “There was no endpoint listening at that could accept the message …”.

So this is where I am stuck. Seems like an issue with the ONVIF?
 
ODM does need valid login credentials.
Hence the initial 'not authorised' error.

Then, unlike the config tool or SADP, the PC needs to be using an IP address in the same range as the camera.
So, as you've changed the address of the camera, you need to change the PC IP address for ODM to work again, as well as give it some login details. Top left of the window.

OK my issue is resolved. Somewhere else on the internet one fellow found that even though I had changed the camera password to xxxx123, in the Hikvision NVR setup screen for the ONVIF camera, it needs to see the password "admin". I tried it an lo and behold it worked!! (with camera plugged into switch)

Sadly, the same trick did not work when I plugged the camera directly into the NVR POE port. It was still giving the same old error. Would have been nice so that I did not have to use that switch. Anyways, thanks for your help guys! Ed

The 7200 series is only limited to adding Hikvision cameras. 7300 series can take any ONVIF compatible camera.
