Which in the amazon pictures it shows the unit in a woman's hand...descriptions says it's 1" x 1" x 1', meaning her hand is SUPER SUPER tiny!

Yes, cellular. A friend uses them and his has a prepaid ATT (text only ?) sim card. It costs him $.015 per text.
