HI Funkyduck
Many thanks for the post I requested comparing the Hikvision vs the Dahua and yes, as you said, the Hikvision shows more detail. What’s more, the 8MP 1/2.5 Hik is not so much darker than the 4MP 1/1.8 Dahua. Of course, the very knowledgeable forum member Wopi82 did point out recently that the eyes’ perception to brightness is logarithmic and so, if I’ve got this right, the illumination sensitivity difference of 4x between the two cameras only appears to be a difference of 1.6 times to the eye.
What’s significant though, is the huge difference in the mp4 file size between Hikvision and Dahua - 88MB for the Hikvision and only 17MB for the Dahua (both videos 35s duration). I assume this translates to a similar difference in the bitrate setting between the two cameras. Bitrate is one of the many crucial setting variables, some others having been mentioned by forum members above. So, putting the 2x pixel density to one side, the Hikvision had the availability of 5x more picture data and sure to win.
It’s a shame, isn’t it, that the moving person image when directly in front of both cameras is complete rubbish!
We may not get any more comments from across the pond for a little while, I guess they’re all somewhat preoccupied on another matter just now...
Thanks again for the videos.
