Banned Security Camera Brands - Lorex, Hikvision, Dauha

Are these brands banned? Are they a security risk? I see many Lorex cameras for sale in the USA and several neighbors use them. I have HIKvision and heard they were a risk. How to learn the truth?

I was going to replace the HIK with Lorex 4k wireless, but now not sure.

They are only banned from government installations. As a private homeowner you can continue to purchase and use them.

These "banned" brands are still being sold in the US and are legally allowed to except for government installations.

That article is nothing but click-bait to try to get you to pay 5 times as much for a camera that is inferior in every way.

NDAA complaint means nothing - even they have been hacked.

EVERY camera is a security risk. It is why we do not give them internet access. That is the real problem that the government isn't addressing.

Lorex is Dahua OEM that is why there is no Lorex subforum.

Lorex in recent years are mostly Dahua OEM NVRs and Cameras - thus the same setups / software configuration and other details as Dahua OEM cameras. ( note, Lorex did have another OEM for a few models that vendors sold at a discount before the pandemic )

also:
ALL internet connected devices are a security risk .. this is why you do not want to port forward .. see the VPN notes ..

Having watched some of the youtube videos which Back Street has produced, I would not trust them as I have seen clear lies / deception from them.

What is out of the ordinary? Every single cloud based camera works the same way.
Most people here who buy wyze cameras, load the RTSp firmware and block any outside connection.

Obviously you need to block the connection via your firewall.
Are you playing dumb? Lorex is doesnt use the cloud for AI. Wyze is indicating that if you WANT to use their cloud AI they can use some of the images to improve the AI.
Lorex may not tell you they are using your video but if you simply hook up your lorex cams/nvr and then port forward its way worse than wyze. The ENTIRE world has access to ALL your recorded video.

I'm not playing dumb re: this, I am dumb. How to block the connection in the router/firewall? Does one block each camera or the entire NVR? I do want to completely block the Wyze from using the cloud.

What about Nike and other clothing lines for human rights issues? Is LeBron going to give up his millions in endorsement deals because the gear he is hawking is made by humans living in worse conditions than the very people here in the USA he says are being wronged...

The fact of the matter is probably every company is involved with something that we personally don't like.

Whether it be Nike, Amazon, Google, Apple, Walmart, etc., they all participate in various forms of deplorable working conditions in factories overseas paying them next to nothing. And that doesn't even touch on the wokeness aspect and other agendas many follow.

The only way to avoid it is to grow your own food and make your own clothing and furniture and build your house and don't drive a car and do not buy anything from anywhere. You either make it yourself with the materials around you or you go without.

Kinda hard to do. So do we boycott all or none? If we boycott only a few, which ones and why those and not another? Do I boycott Nike but not Dahua? Someone else may boycott Dahua but not Nike.

So where you draw the line is your personal choice.

Lorex sold to a Taiwan company and the production all from Vietname now. There is no tax from VN to US. Those parts still made in China, just assemble in VN.
