Newbie question about PoE

Guys,

I want to buy a Hikvision HikVision DS-2CD2542FWD-IS camera (http://www.hikvision.com/en/Products_accessries_209_i5601.html). The power supply for it is listed as PoE. Assuming I have this camera connected through a Cat7 cable to a patch panel (http://www.digitus.info/nl/producte...-6-klasse-e-patch-panel-geschirmt-dn-91608sd/) which then again with a Cat7 cable connects to a switch (http://www.zyxelguard.com/GS1900-24E.asp), will the camera run? Are there any limitations because of this or is it fully equivalent to running it on a normal power supply?

Distance between camera and switch would be 5-15 meters.

First lesson about PoE is the 3 letter acronym means nothing much at all.. the devil's in the details and this time the relevant info is the camera uses: 802.3af Class3

When looking at the switch it states: switch complies with the IEEE 802.3at Power over Ethernet (PoE) Plus standard

And what does all that mean? 802.3at is commonly called PoE+ and is a newer, more powerful successor to 802.3af.. and its completely backwards compatible.. so that camera will run perfectly fine when provided PoE power by that switch.

With good heavy gauge solid coper wiring, PoE will reach to the limits of ethernet cabling (100m)

And the second lesson is that you will either need a PoE switch to power the camera - which would be overkill for just one camera - or a PoE injector.
If your switch is the GS1900-24E it doesn't seem to be a PoE model.
 
And the third lesson is that it's probably best to purchase an inexpensive 4-port POE switch which will serve (up to) 4 cameras than to buy a single POE injector for a single camera and then decide that you want a 2nd (or 3rd) camera and are thus forced to purchase a 2nd (or 3rd) POE injector.

Really no need for POE+ on normal cameras. POE+ uses all cables to put power through so you can use bigger PTZ Domes but I think for most people / newbie here normal 802.3af is just fine. POE Switch is cheaper if you have >2 cameras
