ran a wire and installed a keystone jack in garage for testing, mounted under a shelf facing down to keep dust out
built a test rig, can go up to 10 feet off the ground

Looks good - at first I thought you were running it off the battery LOL.

You will find this will eliminate the run the wire somewhere and hang a camera and then find out too much lens flare from a house light or some other weird effect.

The goal is to capture face ID's, so for this reason don't mount cams higher than 7-8ft. Test at that same height.
unfortunately 10 feet is gonna be my minimum height in the front of the garage otherwise I’m mounting in the uneven stone. Not only would mounting the camera be a PIA but wire access from behind is terrible too.

Even under soffit is 9 feet up

all concrete block house

You could probably get one on the garage door header, possibly one on each side. Even with a tall vehicle I don’t think they would be in the way
I never have put a vehicle in there, mostly a wood shop with some metal working also. I‘m sure I could make something work but again it’s steel and block up there too, may even be an I beam.

Just need a 3/8” hole or even a notch to keep the door from crushing the wire, may not even have to go through the steel. It may require a junction box but shouldn’t be too bad.
They’re pretty tough and one of the best things since we have to pay personal property taxes every year is they only assess them at $100 being so old. I pay less for a flat bed gooseneck trailer, 2002 F350, a 97, and 99 XJ than my wife pays for her new GMC SUV. By several hundred dollars a year
