Network Cable Color Code

Hi

Was wondering what color codes do you guys use to connect NVR to IP Camera for Hikvision products. I have noticed when doing a general maintenance at customers sites which the IP cams were installed by other suppliers/installer use different color code matches not always but rarely.

This is probably a random post but i'm thinking some people don't use the codes which are explained by hikvision but use there own.

Lets hear it.. What color codes do you use for A & B points?

You're referring to Cat-5 / Ethernet cabling for networking, right? If so, and it's to be straight-thru Ethernet, you can use either T-568A or T-568B as long as you use the same layout on BOTH ends. It seems that the majority of pre-made, straight-thru Ethernet patch cables I have purchased use the T-568B layout on both ends. For a crossover cable, use T-568A on one end and B on the other end.

I have memorized the layout for T-568B so I use that on both ends of the cable. So to clarify and re-enforce the image at the end of this reply, here are some conventions that I follow that you can adjust to suit yourself as long as the same wire color order is followed. For example, if you prefer to hold the cable in your right hand, just reverse the order of the colors from top to bottom but ALWAYS keep the RJ-45 crimp connector locking tang facing AWAY from you.

Assuming you already know how to prep the cable, insert, crimp and test and you asked only about color code, here goes:

With the RJ-45 connector in right hand, locking tang AWAY from you and cable entrance pointing toward the cable and with CAT-5 cable in left hand, arrange wires top to bottom as follows:

white/orange
orange
white/green
blue
white/blue
green
white/brown
brown

its not just about the guy who follows you...if you dont use one of the standards you WILL have interference issues and it will not work properly, particularly on longer runs.

Very True, I started to type about the different twist patterns and over all length of different pairs and the issues it can cause at 100'+ but was being lazy and figured I was wasting my breath.

I may never know why the original designers didn't choose a more intuitive layout, where adjacent pins would always share a wire pair, but it is what it is. Follow T-568B and if you need to replace one end of a cable that isn't wired to this standard, you should probably chop off both ends and re-crimp the standard layout.

Ubiquiti toughcable connectors conveniently have the T-568B layout printed large on the box; that was a great help in memorizing it.

Just a guess, since telephones use the 2 center pins of the RJ11/RJ14 for pair #1, and the pins outside of them for pair #2, maybe the RJ45 pinouts just followed that for compatibility purposes. The theory falls apart however if the 3-pair RJ25 is considered.

Because CCTV IP cams are network devices, so the same guidelines that apply to any other network device/wiring apply to them. The same UTP wire that is used for an IP camera can be used for a computer, an IP phone, a router, or a networked toaster.

I use 568a, just because I have it memorized, but both are ok. A and B work equally well, just use the same configuration on both ends. Don't use any other method, as these are the best ways to cut interference. You don't want to run data on two pairs next to each other.

With apologies for the picky comment, but they are only not next to each other when they are in the RJ45 connector. And are running 10/100Mbps ethernet.
In the cable itself - it's the twists that reduce the common-mode signals.
