Need help with connecting to serial terminal of an HikVision DS 9664

I'm trying without success to connect to the serial terminal over the RS-232 connector.

Model: DS-9664NI-I81620
Firmware: V4.1.11 build 171204

I've tried different combination of settings in the DVR to no avail. Tried with 2 USB to RS-232 adapters that I tested on switches to make sure they work. And tried both picocom and minicom. But I can't get a terminal.

Is there something I need to enable for it to work? Anything else I can look at to debug this?

My guess is that you need a 'null modem cable' as you have a DTE connecting to a DTE.
If the cable you have allows it, you could probably get by with just swapping pins 2 and 3 at one end. The other RS232 signals are not used.
Oh, and 115200 / N81 for the baud rate / parity/bits/stop bit settings.

That was it, had to splice the cable and swap the pins... should have thought about that. Thanks a lot, much appreciated
