I enjoy the heck out of my Hik 3mp Bullets and turrets when it comes to day light picture quality but not so much with night time.

I have been searching for ways to improve, tweak etc etc etc and to no avail.

Came upon a set of 2w LED illuminators suggest by carl over at networkcameracritic and boy am I glad I did.

Major improvement on all fronts.

This is a just a quick sample when I first got them and its not even next to the camera. Its even better now thats it
set up correctly

These are pretty much a must for me to get higher quality night vision :)

This whole area is a lot to cover for any camera and it was an artifact mess. Very much cleared up

and here is my front door again but next to the camera. Zero artifacts

the spread on these are pretty wide so you might be able to cover two cams with one light depending on location. Thats a money saver :)
 
I really this illuminator and I've tried several. This is my before picture -

This is with the illuminator mounted in the dark area. You can see it in the arm of the chair. I'm waiting for my electrician to run 12V to where I need it and mount a few around the house.

This is one I tried because it looked similar and was way cheaper at $16 on amazon, called a CMVision IR3, but it's nowhere near as bright.

I can't believe that these don't exist in motion detection battery powered. Amazon sells a couple of decent battery powered motion detection lights and I'm guessing these don't draw much power. Putting a few around the property on motion detection would save running cable and be very convenient. You could do the same with the existing normal non-IR detectors but I hate the idea of lights going on and off around my house (which is why I just leave a bunch on now).
 
these are two watt led lights hence the power to really illiuminate an area quite well. I think a battery powered unit just wouldnt be strong enough to give the results most people want

It would definitely kill even four D if it were running for long, but based on motion it seems a set of four could get you about 40 hours with that:

You could probably stretch it out to a month, still that's about $5 in batteries, yikes.
 
The problem with motion detect lights of any kind is the pre-event frames are not lit and it may take a few frames for it all to come together. If the suspect is moving, there's a good chance you'll miss it. I've tried cameras like that, the Bushnell Trophy HD for example that has battery operated IR lights and 720P video capture, batteries can last up to a year, but most of the time, you miss the action.
 
finally got my last one up and it shows you how strong these are. this was another artifact disaster with just the hik IR.

Absolutely spot on now with exceptional night time viewing !!!!!!!!!!!

Since I'm an ex-electrician I'm looking at using a low voltage landscape lighting transformer. Mount transformer in one location, then run legs to each illuminator location.
