I7-8700k still the best budget friendly option?

Been browsing eBay and the hardware guide on this forum for CPU models
Just wanted to check if people think the i7-8700k is still a good option with plenty of longevity for
8 x 4k poe cams ? Or is there affordable 9th Gen out?

It was last updated around 6 months ago

Thinking it'd time to update my cameras to 4k but would get the PC first

Will look on eBay for pre owned dell optiplex or hps

I also want to have space for my 3.5 inch purple drive

Also is a graphics card necessary?

i8-8500 also seems good ..

the 9th gen really are not much better .. 12th gen is really where they get a lot better

It all depends on the price relative to newer machines... an i5-11500 is more powerful than that processor..

My 2 cents on the graphics card.. My nuc-like i5-11320h and its integrated Iris Xe does a great job handling Blue Iris / Code Project with 5 IPC-T5442T-ZE cameras. The cpu is barely used unless I am on the pc playing a game or watching youtube. The iGPU is doing most of the work related to BI and the AI.
I suggest trying the iGPU before splurging on a gpu. Put those funds towards a newer processor/iGPU

There are some extremely good processor comparison resources around. One is on the Intel website, and there are numerous other independent ones. I didn't bookmark them, but it didn't take heaps of searching to find stuff either.

I think one was simply CPU Benchmark.

With BI optimizations (including substreams), almost any computer can run 8 4k cameras.

In terms of what to look for, imho get a case that can hold at least one 3.5" HDD and SSD .. ideally one that can hold 2x 3.5" HDDs .. ram is super affordable now, so I start with 16GB on the PCs I buy ..

Also note, some Dell and other brands of machines use "sleds" to hold their HDDs .. so if the model is listed to hold 2 HDDs and is sold only with one, then you may need to buy another "sled" to hold another HDD

Yeh I definitely need a space for one local 3.5 inch HDD

Just need to decide on CPU

I have not seen Dell or hp used business class machines come with the i7-8700k chip .. only the i7-8700 .. or i5 i3 versions .. the i5-8500 I see more off than the i7 when I search
