Greetings,

Wonderful forum!!!!

I have the aforementioned NVR up and running. It came from China already set up for English.

The problem I having is that it will only record video from certain model cameras (They are all Hik). I was told that a firmware update would solve this. Reading through here, I see that a FW update is not necessarily a walk in the park.

Please advise or point me toward info on how to safely update this machine.

I've had no problem adding a wide variety of cameras using the 'Custom Protocol' facilities of Camera Management, 7816 with 3.0.8 firmware.
Is that what you've been trying, does it exist on your NVR with the current firmware?
 
I didn't describe the problem very well.

The problem is that the NVR will not record motion events from some models of Hikvision cameras.

It seems to me that the triggers for motion are generated in the cameras. The cameras then tell the NVR that there is motion. It is in that communication where I believe that the problem exists.

Yes, that is correct.

Are all the camera motion detection and schedule recording set up in the same way?
Have you checked the NVR logs for motion events?

Can anyone shed some light on these HIk PoE NVR prices from Aliexpress ?

DS-7616NI-E2-8P for $338 (XinRay Opto-electronic Tech. CO.,LTD)
DS-7616NI-E2-8P for $395 (E&M Security Centre)

I have confirmed with the first store (XinRay Opto-electronic Tech. CO.,LTD) that theirs comes in English firmware and I can update it without any issues !
