Email from NVR but not my cameras

My NVR will send me events by email but I can't get the events sent directly from my cameras.

What am I missing? Am I correct in thinking that because my cameras are on 192.168.254.x network this will not work?



I suspect that the NVR is stopping the camera from routing out.

Cameras are on 192.168.254.x I can browse my cameras using their direct IP Address
NVR is 192.168.1.xx

Internal network is 192.168.1.x, router is a Cisco/Linksys running DD-WRT and I run logging to to check but the camera doesn't hit the router at all.

This will work, with the right network configuration.

So they are on PoE ports on the (unspecified) NVR and you have 'Virtual Host' enabled. Direct IP address (192.168.254.x) as opposed to the NATed NVR IP address via Virtual Host?

To allow the cameras on the NVR PoE interface network segment to access the internet, the router needs to know how to forward packets to them.
To do this, you need to configure a static route in the router, something like this :

"For network 192.168.254.0/24 (ie subnet mask 255.255.255.0) use <NVR_LAN_interface_IP_address> as the gateway".

Yes, cameras are on the PoE ports and Virtual Host is enabled.

OK, so you've now got the camera going out to the internet - to a GMX address.
Presumably that's new behaviour.
For tidiness you can probably remove the individual host routes and leave the network route but I don't think that will change anything.

The next issue will be the version of firmware on the cameras.
When GMAIL imposed enhanced security and it affected most Hikvision NVRs, many people switched to GMX.
And then GMX also imposed increased security and people had to update their NVR firmware to a fixed version.

I don't recall any similar situations for cameras - but maybe a GMX mail forum user could share their experiences with the Hikvision cameras.

How easy would it be to temporarily connect one of the NVR PoE cameras to the LAN and for confirmation it's not a network topology issue, test the email that way?

No way to move a camera to my network as I do not have a regular PoE switch

Cleaned up the direct routs to my camera and now for some unknown reason I've lost complete ability to email from my NVR. :banghead: :idk:
 
OK, Found a 12VDC adapter

Changed the IP on the camera to reside on my 192.168.1.x network. Connect to the camera and tried all the Encryption Settings and still no luck.


On the NVR in email tab, only SSL option for Encryption but on a camera there are three settings, two with Enable STARTTLS option for a total of 5 possible settings.

NVR Email set to use SSL and it will email (test or an alert) to me.

Camera Email will not. I tried all possible settings both on the PoE switch of the NVR and directly connected to my network with 12V DC adapter.

Guess I'll have to live with just the NVR emailing me unless there is another free email service out there?
 
Finally got it working with gmail.
It initially popped up telling me username or password was incorrect.
When I checked my account, I had an email asking me to turn on "allow less secure app to have access"

Gmail telling me that my account is now less secure and prone to hacking. Best thing was to create an account to use to forward the email to my real account.
