Hi guys,

I bought the DH-XVR5116HS-I3 and a 4 x 5MP TOIC active deterettence camera and I am still using 2 of my old 1080p camare's.

The issue I am experiencing is that the SMD feature is not working, I had a look and I see when I only plug in 4 camera;s or 2 I get like an exclamation mark by encode, below screenshot,

It does now show which camera is causing this exclamation mark issue.

This is really frustrating as I still using the existing coax cable I believe it has something to do with the coax cable but then I also installed a new coax cable with the new cameras and I got everything from the supplier. I also sent in the XVR to the supplier to test and the SMD worked for 2 weeks straight, they mentioned it there must be something wrong on my side.

You can see that the SMD stopped working after 13:22 PM

Could it be exceeding the capacity of the XVR using its SMD instead of the cameras SMD?

Doubtful with such a low bitrate, but he should try turning off h.265 and AI encoding first.

Use h.264 and general encoding.

Those are all CVI analog cameras I assume?

Make the changes I recommended and see what happens

Those two settings in theory save HD space.
HD space is cheap. Focus on quality first

Did that resolve the warning?

How do you know for sure SMD isnt working?

OK I dont think you can run IVS/Tripwire AND SMD on the same channel simultaneously...

IVS is far superior to MD/SMD, I'd recommend using IVS

Are you still getting the exclamation icon?

You have a much newer XVR than me, but you do know theres a difference between plain old MD and SMD

As far as I am aware the SMD function only picks up motion from humans and vehicles and Old MD picks up everything like shadow etc.

I configured 2 channels to use only tripwire and old MD, and then I configured 2 channels to only use SMD.

I checked now the exclamation showed for a few seconds and went away, but I forgot to mention it only shows that on the monitor but not on the web browser. I am still stuck on why SMD does not work properly it used to work fine and the supplier tested everything and also updated it to the latest firmware and it worked fine.

Do you think that the BNC connectors can cause any issues with SMD, it must be something with the coax cable or the camera as the XVR is working with the supplier fine.

Correct on MD/SMD

OK good on setting two channels SMD with NO IVS rules on those channels....

Highly doubtfull its the cable

So we need to figure out if its not Working or just not being recorded separately

1- Go to AI/SMD parameters and make sure its set to alert, times, area
2- go to Storage make sure SMD is set to record, times/days
3- go to live view or log and see if it actually trips
4- go to normal playback and see if it shows on the timeline as a colored hash mark

Channel 1 & Channel 4 SMD is enabled and it records 24/7

Storage - MD is enabled and Intelligent

The tripwire channel recorder but now the siren and warning light did not go off

Siren and warning light is enabled

Recording of old SMD showed me walking and tripwire is showing in blue

I know for SMD i need to go to SMD AI search and still show nothing

And do you have regular MD enabled? SMD is essentially an overlay on top of MD.
MD has to be enabled for SMD to work.

Agree with bigredfish.
I have the 7 series but an I2. But have fitted a few I3 versions.
Fairly sure you cannot have AI IVS and SMD running at the same time. Indeed motion/SMD need to be enabled together and obviously the motion recording schedule setup correctly.

I have motion detection and SMD enabled, like I mentioned before even if I just use SMD AI mode the SMD functions still do not work, weird enough it work always when I wipe the device but only for a few hours/days
