I'm fairly confident that the V4 refers to the firmware level, not the hardware level. I've not heard of even V3 hardware the the 5xxx series..

Just wanted to add to the thread for future readers, I have an NVR5216-16P-4KS2E (hardware v1.0 per the info tab, havent checked the physical board) and used the firmware file "DH_NVR5XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000000.1.R.200319.bin" directly from Dahua's website and it upgraded fine from version 3.216. LOTS of new features and a MUCH nicer GUI. So far no issues. We'll see though. Im considering doing a system restore just to give it a clean slate to start with on the new major firmware update.

Hi MSNOW, can you tell me how you went to V3 from V4 please, I bricked my NVR too
That’s a very old post from me but I found an older v3 bin file from Nov 2018 on my computer and copied it to a flash drive, stuck it in and installed it. It just overwrote the old version and I went back to normal. Eventually Dahua came out with a more stable version so was able to get to v4.

I can concur that that firmware update works perfectly on the NVR5216-16P-4KS2 (hardware version 1, not the 4KS2E) - problems such as cameras re-booting on motion detect, the NVR not being able to reliably communicate with the cameras, and general lagginess have all gone. Note though that the main Dahua web site no longer lists firmware for the 4KS2 - you'll want to go to Dahua's European FTP site to get it (don't under any circumstances install the firmware listed on their main web site - it's for the 4KS2E with v2 hardware, and will very likely brick your v1 NVR).

Would this be the current latest:
H_NVR5XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000003.2.R.201010.bin 10-Oct-2020 05:02 51132k
Has anyone tried it?

I spotted that version after I'd already started downloading R.200319, but given that R.200319 is working perfectly for me so far, I'm in no hurry to move to R.201010. I've now downloaded it though, and will likely be upgrading to it in the next few months (or earlier if I spot a bug in R.200319).

Having a quick look through the features listed in the release notes for both, I can't see any difference - and both releases state "none" in the "Bug Fixes" section. I'm thinking the only differences might be explicit support for recently-released cameras, or web interface changes to accommodate recent mutilations in web browsers (Chrome in particular seems to be setting its own standards without regard to W3C recommendations).

I don't see any reason not to use R.201010 - if I hadn't already committed myself to R.200319, I'd be going with the newer version too. Bear in mind of course that I certainly can't provide any guarantees - and as always, stay on top of your firewall (IMO, anyone enabling UPnP on their gateway should be banned from using the internet).

Best practice to factory reset then upgrade right?

I prefer to do go that way indeed. However I see in previous posts to do a "system restore", that is something I counteradvice: if there are parameters that are redundant, obsolete or troublesome, you might run into possible issues on the new firmware.

I'd normally first upgrade and then do a setting reset (to make sure that newly-available options are set), but in this case I didn't (I was already at the end of my tether, thinking that if this didn't fix my previous issues, I'd dump everything and replace it with Hikvision equipment).

I uploaded the new firmware through IE (as the old firmware didn't like working with Firefox), waited for it to perform the upgrade, then panicked when I couldn't log back in - before I realised that the browser still had the old WebUI running. Ctrl-F5 to force a page refresh and everything came good. All the settings which I'd configured under 3.2 were still there, and all new options were blank/disabled (meaning Dahua's techs actually used their brains and provided defaults for values which didn't previously exist).

... However I see in previous posts to do a "system restore", that is something I counteradvice: if there are parameters that are redundant, obsolete or troublesome, you might run into possible issues on the new firmware.
Same thoughts here - never save settings under one firmware version in the hopes of importing them into another firmware version. If the settings didn't carry over during the upgrade, it's far preferable to fumble through re-configuring things from scratch, than risking unknown issues by restoring incompatible settings.

Anyone tried upgrading to General_NVR5XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000006.0.R.210208 yet? Looks like it came out March 19th, 2021 (LINK).

Edit: Or wait, is it the non-General version were supposed to use? It looks like there is also a "NVR5XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000006.0.R.210208" that came out March 8th, 2021. What's the difference?!

I note from your previous post that you have the NVR5216-16P-4KS2E - you'll want to make sure that you only use firmware designed for the newer "E" variant of the NVR, as there've been a few horror stories from people who've used the wrong firmware for their NVR.

Other than that caveat, I can't really offer much insight as I don't know the difference between the "General" and regular version of the firmware. I suspect that the difference between them is relevant to what region the NVR was released for (China domestic, USA, International).
