Dahua nvr - HDD

I'm struggling to get a Seagate Iron Wolf 4Tb HDD to work in a Dahua nvr.
Should I be able to get it to work or do I need to purchase a Skyhawk?

At first, I stupidly didn't realise that I needed to format the HDD, so now trying to do so.
On the storage menu, using HDD Detact, It seems to be able to detect and tell me that I have 3726.02GB available and 1 error
On HDD manager it shows
AllDevice NamePhysical PositionTypeHealth statusFree Space
1sdamain board-1Read/WriteWarning0.00MB/0.00MB

When I select this drive and click on Format I get a message stating "Format failed.:sda"

I'm a newby at this and I'm concerned that I should have purchased a Sky Hawk rather than an Iron Wolf HDD
Very grateful for any assistance that you might be able to lend. Thanks

Both would be perfectly good choices and should work OK.

Does that NVR have the ability to show the SMART data for the HDD?
If so - copy the attribute data here so it can be checked for errors.

If not - maybe connect it to a PC or equivalent that has that ability.
I suspect you have a faulty drive.

Good to hear that the Iron Wolf should work as well as the Sky Hawk.

Below is a photo of the SMART data for this HDD.

I must admit I was wondering whether the drive might be faulty, but I thought that it would be more likely that I hadn't set things up correctly. Always best to blame yourself before turning to others ;-)

Thanks for all your help, PeterSeagate Iron Wolf SMART data report.jpg

Hi Alastair,
Is this the screen that you need to see? I hadn't spotted that there was another tab with this on it.
Thanks
Peter

the first block seems to be bad. trying accessing it on a PC and try a low level format it there. Look at the seagate website.

Low level formats are from pre-history while HDDs were dumb devices.
Modern HDDs have intelligent controllers that fully handle their operation, and record and report their status and errors via the SMART capability.
A check of the attribute values will show critical detail.

I've looked again, and the only place that I can see the word attribute mentioned is on the table shown in my screen photo. Sadly the row beneath is empty to it doesn't look like there is any attribute data...
To try to make it clearer the S.M.A.R.T tab shows
Portmain board-1
ModelST4000VN008
No.ZGY88CMC
StatusIt is malfunction, cannot use

..underneath this there is another table, which is, I think, where the attribute data that you are referring to would be located, but unfortunately, it is blank.

Smart IDAttributeThreshold ValueWorst ValueCurrent ValueStatus
Blank row...
Blank row...
Blank row...

That's certainly in the form of the attribute table.
But unpopulated.

Do you see any way to enable or activate it?

But either way - you have a faulty HDD.
I'd suggest you make contact with the supplier to organise a replacement.
They may require that you run a diagnostic program to provide detail of the problem.

Alastair,
I can't see a way to activate the attribute table as you suggest - it may just be that I'm not looking in the right place.
However, I think that the clue might be in the message next to where it says Status... "It is malfunction, cannot use"
I'm beginning to think that it's time to contact Seagate now.
Thanks to you and others for all your help and patience.
Peter

i think that the first sector being bad is a major problem. Contact the disk manufacture.
