My Dahua camera DH-IPC-HDBW1230E Datasheet says:
camera is equipped with Intelligent Video analysis (IVS), a built-in intelligent analytic algorithm based on video, which can realize intelligent functions like Tripwire and Intrusion, to quickly and accurately respond to monitoring events in specific area.
But on my NVR2104-P-4KS3 I cannot add (+ sign) a rule (see image) on the IVS page.
What is wrong?

Best practice is and continues to be accessing the camera GUI via a web browser and not within the NVR. That is the same whether it is old or brand new. And it has never involved unplugging the camera from the NVR and in fact that can cause issues later with the NVR and the camera, especially if you plug it in to a different POE port.

To get into the camera GUI from the NVR, you need to first access the NVR GUI by going to a computer and opening up a browser (preferably Internet Explorer (yeah we know) but Pale Moon will work as well) and type in the IP address of the NVR and login that way. Next go into the camera settings page on the NVR and look for the Microsoft e Web Browser and select it and it will go to the camera GUI (photo credit bigredfish from his PSA thread). Your screen may look a little different to get into the camera gui and see if doing it this way gets you access to some other features the NVR is blocking - do not worry about the Port number and circle as that was from another issue someone posted.

The user/pw should be the same as the NVR unless YOU changed the camera user/pw.

  • Open Notepad:
    • Copy then paste the single line of code below into Notepad:
    • CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application").Visible=true
    • Save as OpenIE.vbs
  • Make sure the the file name ends in .vbs not .txt, If it ends in .txt you must rename to .vbs
  • Create a shortcut to the above file and double-click it anytime you want native Internet Explorer.

Yes. Open up the browser and type in the IP address of the NVR and then the user and password and then navigate to that page and open up the camera GUI.

You should be able to carry out basic tasks, for the IVS not being functional. By activating the correct "smart plan" via the NVR menu. Then as wittaj has suggested.

How did you first hook the camera to the NVR - did you let the NVR initialize it or did you? And if you did, then it would be whatever user/password you assigned.

If you don't remember, you can always factory reset the camera and let the NVR initialize it and assign it the NVR user/pw.

Now I did set my NVR's pw in the pw field of the camera (in the NVR) - and login was OK
 
Don’t overthink it! Even my cheap, lower-than-quality (as I’ve been told) Amcrest 16-channel POE AI NVR from four years ago—costing over $500—
can enable AI features on a newly installed camera directly from the NVR's GUI. There's no need to log into the camera separately to enable AI.

How to Enable AI from the NVR GUI:
Access the AI Menu:
Go to AI in the NVR interface.
It typically starts in Parameters; if not, navigate there.
Enable Smart Plan:
Click on Smart Plan to load the channels (e.g., D1).
Select the camera you want to configure (e.g. in my case, D6).
Choose the AI features you want to enable, such as:
Face Detection, Heat Map, IVS, Smart Object Detection.

If your camera supports Heat Map and IVS, enable both.
Click Apply to save changes.

Setting Up IVS:
Navigate to IVS Settings:
Under Parameters, select IVS.
Choose your camera and ensure Type is set to AI by Camera.
Add a New IVS Rule:
(some systems default to Intrusion; delete it if necessary) Then click Add.
In the dropdown, Tripwire for an easy setup.
Click Draw, then draw your detection line.
Choose a filter type if available (e.g., Human, Vehicle, or Animal).
Click Save and Apply (important—if you don’t click apply on Ai page, your setup will be lost!).

Configure Event Triggers:
Click Trigger, then set it to Record or other desired actions.
Click Save and Apply again.
Testing & Additional Rules:
Some cameras support up to 10 IVS rules.
If your camera faces a street, set up a Tripwire rule with Vehicle detection for testing.
Enable a buzzer to confirm events are triggering properly.
If you no longer need a rule, click the trash can icon to remove it—but remember to click Apply, or it will still be there, if you don't want to delete but remove for now just uncheck the rule

Sorry I tried to write this as plan as I can so it would be easy to understand, As I have been told no one can understand my rambling. Maybe I will just go and reset one of my cameras and make a video to show the steps in action..

So made a fast Video, I show in this video a fresh added camera that was reset. Setting up Ai from the NVRs GUI.. There is no need to log into the camera if your NVR support AI by default. However if your NVR is like some other Semi Ai that will not even enable an Ai tab until the Ai camera is enabled. Then yes ai would need to be setup in camera before Ai option would even appear on your NVR.. My guess is that your NVR is newer then again my Cheap Consumer grade NVR..

Just recognize that most here have seen the best results when going into the camera GUI and only using the NVR GUI only for notifications, recording, and viewing.

While in theory whether you set the parameters for the camera in the NVR or camera, it should take the most recent, but firmware and model can vary.

What does the firmware do if there is a conflict between what the NVR says and what the camera says? It will take what the camera says.

Look at the web GUI of a current 5442-S3 camera, and lets add a recent PTZ.
Click each tab and count every single possible control/setting

I'll wait....

No go look for ALL of those settings and controls on the NVR for that camera.
And if the NVR GUI is all they know, many have no clue that the camera even has its own interface, then we're just dumbing things down , might as well buy Ring or Arlo

You'll find about 50%? or more of those settings missing from the NVR GUI

Same with apps. Every 20-30 something that strolls in here for the first time can't understand why you can't do all 900 or so settings from the DMSS app.

Loging into my cam I only find Settings/Event/Video_Detection and no entry for IVS, nor Tripwire nor Intrusion.
Also my NVR displays "Configuration changes are not supported" when I open the IVS setting page.
So I think the cam doesnt support IVS , although its stated in the Datasheet.
Thanks anyhow to all of you for your help, I learned a lot! :thumb:
 
Post a screenshot of your camera GUI.

Did you set up a smart plan first? Without Smart Plan and selecting IVS, then it won't show.

Provided you are using Internet Explorer or Pale Moon (or possibly Edge with IE mode), then yes it appears you do not have a version with it.

Keep in mind that this camera has had several versions of that model. Maybe you are seeing the datasheet for the newest S3 model but the original didn't include IVS?

Finaly I found the correct datasheet of my IPC-HDBW1230E-0280B-S5, and indeed, it states only video_motion no IPS.
But thanks for your reactios, I got wiser, a bit.
 
Sorry to hear your camera don't have IVS.. Just for the record not all IVS camera that offer Tripwire and the other options have a Smart Plan Option. Just for others that are reading.. Now sure the camera that I posted a video about had it but there are some first Gen Ai cameras that didn't have it.. WebUI from newer AI with Smart Plan and the picture of second camera is much older from 2012 or 13 and that option isn't there and yes I use IVS with Tripwires in that camera and heat map..
