Hello All,
A noob question as I learn along

Based on lots of reading here, it seems buying a IPC-HDW5231R-Z made sense to start with.

In searching Empire Technology storefront, I am unable to find it. Is that cam now discontinued ?

Is there a recommended replacement ?
thanks

Email Andy directly at kingsecurity2014@163.com. I just ordered that camera Sunday. Chinese New Year is coming up so they'll be shut down for a couple of weeks. If you get your order in soon, it'll be en route over the holiday.

thank you, I will contact him. May I ask what price did you pay ?

$183 for a camera and junction box, including shipping to the US.

thank you. One additional question, if I may...since that camera is not listed on aliexpress website, how did you go about paying for them ?

thanks again.

He sent me an invoice to my PayPal address. Andy says PayPal is the safest way to go.
makes perfect sense. Thank you for all your feedback, it is appreciated. I have sent Andy an email, awaiting his reply back

If you go to Empire Technology Aliexpress page, click on the "Starlight 2MP" category under the "2017 hot selling camera IP" under the Store Categories section at the left of the screen. The first camera shown is the IPC HDW5231R-Z.

I just ordered 4 of the IPC HDW5231R-Z from Andy.

--Starlight 2MP - Shop Cheap --Starlight 2MP from China --Starlight 2MP Suppliers at Empire Technology Co., Ltd on Aliexpress.com
that is correct, i will adjust the shop to make it easy shopping.

Thank You for all the feedback. :)

Can anyone kindly link the waterproof junction box for this cam from andy’s store ?

I saw there are several models, i want to make sure i get the right one that will work with this cam.

Many thanks

All,
Thank you for ALL the feedback. I just sent an email to Andy, requesting two cameras and two junction boxes. Looking forward to it.

This will be my first venture into DIY home security. I will be asking you all for more help as soon as I get them. Initially, i plan to set them up using my synology NAS. I did read in an other thread there's firmware upgrade involved and possibly even upgrading the synology software. I do have a PC standing by where I plan on installing blue iris software.

So glad I found this forum. One of the most active forums with a lot of people with expertise offering help.

I got a text from DHL today showing mine will be delivered Friday. I ordered mine Saturday afternoon (Sunday AM Hong Kong time) and I'm in California. I can't wait to start testing it out in the locations I've picked. I have a Synology too and I'll probably use it for the first couple of cameras to get started. It would be nice to use the Synology for more cameras but I think $50/cam licensing is a bit steep.

Mr_D, you and I are in the same boat. =)

Yes, I was thinking the same about their steep $50 per cam fee. Eventually, that will add up as I plan to have around 10 cams for outside and inside the house. at that cost, running if off a PC and using synology for backend would be a hybrid configuration. I may configure a VM on synology and see if can handle the camera load.

lets plan to keep in loop and progress of our configurations/firmware in use, etc. I might make an official post for synology/dahua setup when its all up and running.

giomania,

thank you SO much. I checked out both links for PoE and cliff notes. Amazing info and BTW, you should call it IPCamTalk 'Bible' :)
