Hi guys

I have a Hikvision DS-2CD2055FWD-I camera connected to my Hikvision DS-7108NI-SN/P NVR. The video live view and recording works perfectly. Now I want to record audio. I purchased a microphone (attached picture) and connected its power cable to a 12VDC power supply and its RCA cable to the audio-in in the NVR. Also connected the NVR's audio-out to my monitor which also has got a built-in speaker. The monitor is connected to the NVR using a VGA cable. I enabled "Enable audio output" in NVR > Configuration > Live view > General settings. I cannot hear any sound in the live view mode? I tested the mic and monitor speaker separately and they works. I have attached the pictures of the settings in the NVR. Can some one please check and advise ?

Regards,
anishjp

That will not work.

If you want a camera with audio, you need a camera with audio, and not a microphone connected to your NVR. The encoding is done on the camera. The audio in on the NVR is for bidirectional audio (you could speak from your NVR/a control room to any camera with audio output/speaker).

You need to change the camera to DS-2CD2055FWD-IS, or another model with audio input, and connect the mic to the camera.

Thanks for your reply. How is this guy doing it? Unless the camera has got a built-in microphone or a audio line-in.

Just with the thumbnail (I am not going to watch the video), that is an analog/coaxial recorder. The encoding is done on the DVR. The DVR gets the video from the BNC connector, the audio from the RCA connector, and converts it to 0s and 1s.

On a NVR/IP camera the encoding gets done on the camera. The camera converts video (and audio if it has it) and sends it to the NVR, which just stores it on the HD, streams it to your mobile/computer, etc.

Thanks for your help. I bought another camera DS-2CD2155FWD-IS which has a line audio-in capability. Connected the powered mic to the line-in of the camera. I have enabled "Video & Audio" and also set to "linein" in the web interface of the camera. My NVR is connected to the monitor via a VGA cable. Now where do I plug in my speakers/headphones to listen to the audio during playback from the NVR?

Anishjp

Audio out on the back of the NVR.
