All my cams are IP. I have one Hik, 2 ACTi cams, and will be buying one Dahua. Even if all cams are ONVIF compliant, would it be best to use Blue Iris? My concern is the cams are from various manufacturers and a HIK NVR might work fine for the Hikvision cam, but not the other 2 brands. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Based on what I've seen, your chances of mixing-and-matching different cameras, and them working, is typically higher in a PCNVR solution than a dedicated NVR system. By PCNVR I mean the likes of Blue Iris, Exacq, etc.

I've used the ONVIF model choice on a Hikvision NVR under multiple firmware versions for 6 or 7 non-Hikvision camera brands and it's been fine, for continuous recording.
Not all ONVIF compatible cameras generate the push/pull event subscription notifications that are needed for motion detection under ONVIF.
Those that do - Hikvision, Longse/Cantonk.
