Golden rules to make proper upgrade when avoiding failure:
Better is to have monitor connected to recorder - you see your progress more informatively

1) Before upgrade stop recording, even better disconnect hard drive. disconnect wired alarm inputs.
2) Reset to factory default. Reboot
3) Do the upgrade - give some time to do its business - 5 minutes even
4) When up and running again, factory default again, reboot
5) Feel free to make your setup

The above is excellent advice. I found the hard way that sometimes the update does not like something in the current configuration and will boot loop. Doing as @Reimo suggested is the best way to guard against that.

Which firmware is everyone using for DHI-NVR5216-4KS2 from Andy or Dahua Int. website? On the web its showing ( DH_NVR5XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000003.1.R.200813 ) versus the one posted now ( DH_NVR5XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000003.2.R.201010.bin ). My NVR is currently on V4.001.00000000.1, Build Date: 2020-03-19

I'm running V4.001.0000000.3, Build Date: 2020-05-19. I think the only thing that would get me to take the risk of updating it would be if a new version would play nicely with browsers other than IE11. I access it with firefox and pale moon but not all of the functions are there. Fortunately, I can get around most of the loss with smartPss.

I had it working fully with IE11, then installed chrome to see how that would work. Chrome didn't work any better than firefox or pale moon and I uninstalled it. Since then, the NVR doesn't work correctly with IE11 and I don't fell like spending hours and hours trying to figure out why. Overall I feel that the browser interface is a mess, and with the only browser that works correctly (IE11) being obsolete, it's an even bigger mess

Additionally, I have V1 hardware, making attempted upgrades even riskier.

On my mac it works good with Safari and Chrome.
It did not work until I reset to defaults.

Where you ever able to resolve this? I have a older NVR 5432-4ks2 from 2018 with original firmware(old interface) and would like to update it with some of the newer features.
I bought it here second hand and has been running fine. I know a newer firmware is available now and was wondering if you installed it and or what are you running now.

First upgrade it with latest V3 firmware (DH_NVR5XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V3.216.0000006.0.R.20190223)

After that you can shoot the latest V4 on top of it (DH_NVR5XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000003.2.R.201010)

So I updated with no issues, I have done a few setups for clients with the 4.0 software and really liking it. Thanks for the advice.

So far, I've found a new sub-menu in Maintain called "Intelligence Diagnosis" and a new checkbox "System Update Notifications" (checked by default) into the Upate screen itself.

Strange, the new update file is 1/6 bigger than previous one. There must be a lot more than two check boxes added.

just updated to DH_NVR5XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000006.0.R.210208.bin - so far working well and no issues to report. Will keep an eye on it if i find any issues.

The new version also allows downloading of MP4 directly from the playback menu now which is huge as it did not work correctly before (had to do it through backup menu in previous versions)
