    Shadows on the driveway

Thanks 555. I'm still new to this and getting my system setup. I have a ton of hard drive space to it's not a big deal. Just want to make sure I'm not missing something dumb. I do have the latest version installed.

    Shadows on the driveway

I still have this issue with shadows. Shadows on the grass are not as bad, but shadows on my driveway or deck easily trigger the motion alert. I have tried "Cancel shadows" and that does not make any difference. I could zone out that area, but that changes with time of year and day. I think...

Direct to Disk...Should I do it?

Very cool and I cant wait to see it. If you need a tester, let me know and I would be happy help.

Direct to Disk...Should I do it?

Thanks again guys, it's working great. Also BP2008, I'm using your web interface. Works great! Blue Iris should just include it:peaceful:

Direct to Disk...Should I do it?

Thanks! cpu dropped to around to around 30%! Does the pretrigger video buffer still work? Looks like I can still set that up and put in the frames on want. I'm not sure how it would work writing directly to disk tho.

Direct to Disk...Should I do it?

I have a new system running on an i5 4590 with 8gb. I originally planned on 3-4 cameras. Then 5…and now I have 7. CPU has gone up and I’m around 75% most of the time. Sometimes in the high 90’s if I’m using remote desktop. All 7 cams are doing 10fps. 6 cams are 4mb and 1 is 3mb. Currently...

    Whats Causing Poor Video

Thanks Del! Seems to be working great. Strange that was the only camera that did that. That is on the south side of my house and has direct sunlight. Not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

    Whats Causing Poor Video

Well so far so good. Video still looks clear after I made that change. I'm really hopping it's not the cable. It made a long journey from my basement, to the garage, to the attic, to the side of the house.

    Whats Causing Poor Video

haha, sorry. I put vbr in the first post thinking that was the correct abbreviation. I kind of guessed on that. It's set to variable with a max of 6144.

    Whats Causing Poor Video

Ok, I have changed i-frame to 20. I have H.264+ off. I have the i-frame set to 50 for my other cams at 50 too. Should I also change them? I was not sure of some of these setting so I left the default it I didn't know what it was.

    Whats Causing Poor Video

Sorry about that. I forget some users still have dialup:peaceful: The firmware is the same on all cams, 5.3.8. Also I have the video set to 2688X1520, vbr, 10 fps, iframe 50, smoothing 50.

    Whats Causing Poor Video

I can fix it by switching the camera to nighttime and then back to day. That fixes it, but after a few minutes it's back to the bad video. I now have 5 cameras and this is the only one doing this. Maybe being close to my house is causing this to happen? It starts out showing a little bit of...

    Whats Causing Poor Video

So I have a Hikvision DS-2CD2342FWD-I 4MP WDR. The first one I had would show a small black spot in the center. Also after it was on for a while the video would start to digitize and look kind of pink. I sent it back and got a new cam. Good news is the black spot is gone. Bad news is it...

    New System Upgrade problems

did you breakdown that processs to see what it was? That's a shared process and you can use something like process explorer to see what it is. Might be something like Remote Desktop if you were using that. I had frame rate setting to unlimited within Blue Iris using Remote Desktop. This added...

    Recommended Security?

I recently setup a new system and have my Blue Iris server and cameras all running on the same vlan as my house. I do have a separate network for guest wireless. I was wondering what the prefered recommendation was when setting up security for surveillance cameras. I can easily create another...

    License on Multiple Computers

Funny you mention that. I just updated a post here https://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread.php/11780-Slow-Frame-Rate-with-RDP Rdp does work great setup that way, but eats up some cpu.

    Making a turret weather proof?

I have my outdoor cams installed and working great. I was wondering what people do to weatherproof these. Mine are somewhat protected by an overhang, but still have the 3/4" hole behind the cam I used to run the cable. Do people caulk around the base of the cam to prevent bugs and water from...

    Slow Frame Rate with RDP

Now I see why the limit was set by default. It's great have it set to unrestricted, but uses about 25-30% cpu. Not a big deal for me, but I see how it could be.

Wow, that web interface works great! I also tried the Java app and the video quality on that is perfect.

Black spot in center of camera

To late. Just removed the camera and boxed it back up to return. Must have been defective. Blue Iris was getting some write errors on this cam and it also rebooted a few times. At least Amazon makes for a simple return. Glad I did not order it direct from China.

    Recommended Indoor Cam? Maybe Hikvision

I put all my outdoor cams on the same network as my house. I guess I could create a new vlan and put all of them on another network. Never really thought about it. Currently I remote access to the blue Iris computer. Might at some complexity if I have all that on another network.

    Recommended Indoor Cam? Maybe Hikvision

Now about the 2.8mm or 4mm. It will be installed in a large Great room. I should have tested with my turret cameras first to see what the best lense size should be. The 4mm worked great for 3 of my 4 cams and had to use one 2.8 to get the right view.

    What size lens to get?

Started at 5:30AM and was a simple install of the 3 cams. Wires were easy to run in the attic and the installed turned out great. Unfortunately I have one bad camera that look like a piece of dirt is stuck on the lense. Get a small black spot in the video and the focus of the camera goes kind...

    What size lens to get?

When I got the cameras they had stickers on the box that identified the lense size. They also had small stickers on the outside of the cameras. I did test them and could see an obvious difference that they were at least different compared to the one 2.8mm camera I got. I thought the 2.8 would...

Black spot in center of camera

I have a black spot on one of the 4 cameras I installed. It almost looks like a piece of dirt on the lens, but the lense looks clean. I can't see any visible dirt on or inside the lens, but definitly have a very small black spot almost in the center of my video. I have setup a return with...

    Recommended Indoor Cam? Maybe Hikvision

I have installed 4 outdoor Hikvision turret cameras and they seem to work well (besides a defective one that I have to return). I would like to add one indoor camera and was wondering if there is a prefered type of indoor camera you guys recommend. I even thought about picking up another...

    What Firmware Should I use?

I found them here, and just updated to 5.3.8. It's the same version that came with one of my camera's. I have not tried 5.4. http://bkeesti.ee/upload/Hikvision/Firmware/IP%20Kaamerad/DS-2CD2X22FWD,2X42FWD,2X52F/

    What Firmware Should I use?

any word on that 5.4 version? I have read you cant always go back, but have found almost nothing about the 5.4 version. For now I think I will update the other 3 to match the odd one. Also my 5.3.8 does show the same smart events.

    Motion and Shadows

I have tried most of the options,it's just getting the right combination I guess. This location just happens to have a large tree with a bunch of shadows.

    Best motion setup?

thats a thought too. I have a 4tb drive so I guess I have the room. I was just hopping this would limit recording to real events and make those events easy to find.
