    Lightning

How did you get the insurance to pay you back for the time to re-install the Ethernet cables? I would imagine whatever the lightning damage, which in my case, could be thousands of $ damage, as I do have hi-end hi-fi equipment, which I have been told it is still showing in stand-by, but I will...

    Lightning

I hope this will not be my case, as it took me so much work up in the attic and the walls, that I would begin to cry just by the idea to redo it all. :(

    Lightning

Hi Tony, After reading, I feel better now, because I am not the only one who cannot give a logical explanation to Mr. Lightning behavior. The funny thing is that on my roof, I have a TV antenna, which I have always considered to be the most likely point of attraction for a future...

Hi folks, I think the story I am about to tell, is in a way unbelievable. After having worked two months on the IP cams installation, retrofitting with Ethernet cables my home etc. I was finally ready to go on vacation with a decent system up a running. We leave to the airport, the sun was...

    How to setup DuckDNS?

Well, for me is more for streaming with multiple countries, and it works well for my purpose. I see Zerotier is free for individuals, that is a starting point, but again, I would need more a step by step guide rather than a forum thread, it is so much to learn for a non IT person :(

    How to setup DuckDNS?

Understood and thank you for the heads-up. Unfortunately, my router does not support VPN, and I typically use Surfshark for all my other VPN needs. The Primer page is a lot of reading...it will take me time to figure out how to do this. Thank you

    How to setup DuckDNS?

Hi All, I am afraid I have to give up, I think I have taken all the necessary steps, I have read dozens of pages on the internet, but still when I try to ping, my connection times out and fails. Given that I cannot get it to work, I'd like to create at least a device certificate, but there is...

    How to setup DuckDNS?

Hi guys, I have spent all day trying to figure out why I cannot get my created domain to work. What do I want to achieve? I want to enable https connection to my Lorex webservice so that when I want to connect to the webservice address remotely, from external computers, it is, say, more...

Lorex - How do I deactivate indoor cameras?

Privacy is a legal requirement for those people, because they work for the government. It is sufficient to tell/prove them that the camera is off. Anyways, I will power those cameras with DC and pilot them On/Off with a switch. This is the solution I came up with, I think it is much easier...

Lorex - How do I deactivate indoor cameras?

Privacy maybe? I have people coming in to my place every single day, it seems obvious to me that their privacy is my priority. It should be an option in any camera system, of course with the proper security level.

Lorex - How do I deactivate indoor cameras?

I worked hard to have every single camera (10) wired, retrofitting my two storey home, to avoid Wi-Fi. How would that work with an additional PoE? Should I connect Ethernet + the 10 cameras to the new PoE Switch and connect the switch to the recorder? Thank you!

Lorex - How do I deactivate indoor cameras?

i feel this is unbelievable and extremely limiting the product. They could easily implement this feature, use a password or two factor authentication for safety. Unplugging the cameras from the recorder is not only a pain in the neck, but with the time, will damage the Poe port/plug. Is this...

Lorex - How do I deactivate indoor cameras?

Hi All, I have the following kit from Lorex: NVR N864 E893AB IP Cameras Today, I called the Lorex Support to ask how can I easily turn the indoor cameras off (via the App), as I really need to use them only when I am away from home. I could not find a way, other than unplugging the network...

    Best sealant for cameras

Hi all, I wish I'd found that drawing before. I was able to rotate the plate, you have to completely remove the screw and then you can force the plate to rotate, you hear clicks every small rotation. I wanted to go down 1" on the siding, but unfortunately the screws would have ended right...

    Best sealant for cameras

That's what I thought too, but unfortunately those plates cannot be rotated, the notches are all on top. I was looking for something easier to remove than silicone, but if there is nothing else, I will have to use it. So I could use the duct seal for the hole in the wood, then silicone around...

    Best sealant for cameras

LOL, true about the color. For whatever reason, the cable notch of those cameras is always on the top of the plate, so should heavy rain come, it will go through the notch and down to the cable. This is the reason why I also want to seal the notch and around the camera.

    Best sealant for cameras

Thank you for your feedback. Just for clarity, I post a couple of pictures for you to better understand what I mean. I was wondering: Is there anything preventing me from using: It works on sinks, and the cameras are made of metal, very easy to work with. At least the 1" hole behind the...

    Best sealant for cameras

Hi all, I have installed the first two cameras outdoor, they are screwed over the vinyl siding and then through the wood of the wall. Behind the round base of the camera, there is a central hole of 1", where the Ethernet cable and its protection go in the wall. What is the best way to seal...

    Noob needs some recommendation

Just for deterrence, but lucky for us, there is not much criminality where I live, it is more for us to take a peek while traveling, sometimes we stay away long time. Never been a fun of installing Ethernet cables outside, ice and snow are really bad and even if they are designed for that, I...

    Noob needs some recommendation

If you refer to the steel screw piles, they are common because they resist to any weather, they can hold any weight and will last forever. They are also used a lot in home building now, due to their strengths. The aesthetics may not be appealing for a deck, but decks in general have not a great...

    Noob needs some recommendation

In fact, they are for surveillance, they are not an alarm system, (where I have lots of experience). Basically, they are useless either way. As you said, 5 ft, they'll smack it, 18ft, they will not, but the camera will just show a person or an animal. :) The only reason why I want them over...

Nope, because a serious criminal wears a mask. I am not concerned about micro-criminality, if they see the cameras, they won't even get close to the house.

The alarm system will follow. Yep, i have already installed CAT6 everywhere in the house, still working on some parts, tough job, but I want everything wired. No CCA, pure copper 24AWG :)

    Noob needs some recommendation

Hi, Thank for your feedback. At the end, I am not much interested in getting the face ID, this is a surveillance system for me, not an alarm system. It is more for general monitoring of the house when we are out traveling. If there is an intruder, I should get a notification, then I will move...

    Noob needs some recommendation

OK guys, I found what I needed and took two Ethernet cables up to the attic. Now, I need to define the camera position, and in the picture below, I have marked in red where I'd like to install it. I do not want to install the camera to the soffit, but rather to the metal fascia I circled in...

Hi all, I am on the market to buy a surveillance camera kit, I did my homework and I know what I need: 12 Cameras (8 bullet + 24 Dome with 180° view) NVR with 12 Channels Cameras need to be PoE powered 6 cameras will be indoor + 6 outdoor Cameras need to be resilient with harsh weather, I am...
