Review: Dahua SD5A425XA-HNR 4MP 25x Starlight IR PTZ

You should match what was there previously which was T568B. It doesn't matter if you use A or B on a cable provided that both ends of that cable are the same. If you have A on one end of the cable segment and B on the other you have made a Crossover Cable which is mostly anachronistic these...

    blueirissoftware.com website down (2023.07.07)

I would but I have multiple VMs sharing the same IP and I can't tell which is requesting what from where. This is also why I was hoping not to totally isolate that machine.

    blueirissoftware.com website down (2023.07.07)

Mine is currently running normally fingers crossed hopefully it remains that way. I put a wildcard domain block in my Pihole DNS server for blueirissoftware.com, blueiris.pro and blueiris.software; my OS also resolves the AAAA records along with the A records but so far there haven't been any...

    Dahua SD5A432GB-HNR 4MP 32x Zoom PTZ ?

One thing to keep in mind when looking at PTZ cameras is generally the higher the optical zoom the narrower the fully zoomed out view will be. I have the 25x Dahua SD49225XA-HNR and the zoomed out view is considerably narrower than my fixed cams. So I suggest checking the stats on the camera...

how do you isolate cameras from the inetent?

I use BI on my flat network at home. Flat being that there are no vLANs or subnets but is instead a single private IP range of 192.168.73.x/24 which includes the cameras. I statically assign the cameras and simply set the default gateway to the wrong value. On my network the gateway is...

When is Port Forwarding Safe? What devices/programs/apps or Never?

Unfortunately it really isn't MaxMinds fault. They are one of many GeoIP companies. IP Addresses are geographically assigned, well they were originally but the demand for IP addresses is such that addresses such as 1.1.1.1 which is a CloudFlare public DNS server technically belongs in Australia...

When is Port Forwarding Safe? What devices/programs/apps or Never?

Here is a visualization of the kind of activity your internet connection must endure. This is a screenshot of my firewall being attacked by a set of public IP addresses from the Netherlands (NL). This is an arbitrary week that I picked at random out of my logs from 2021/07/15 to 2021/07/22. I do...

So what POE switch is everyone using these days?

The easy rule of thumb is if you want to have a segmented network with vLANs or Virtual Local Area Networks or some other higher level function you will want to get a "managed" switch. If you are like the overwhelming majority of home users and simply want a switch that works the "unmanaged"...

So what POE switch is everyone using these days?

Totally understandable but be mindful of future expansion. Slightly larger switches with more ports usually don't cost much more than their smaller siblings with fewer ports. Having that space to expand in the future may prove very valuable some day.

When is Port Forwarding Safe? What devices/programs/apps or Never?

I agree with what others in this thread have stated, that port forwarding is not secure, not safe and simply a bad idea. A VPN run on a quality edge device is the most secure method of remote access. An "edge device" is the division between your private LAN(s) and the open internet, this is...

So what POE switch is everyone using these days?

I am using a Netgear GS752TP and have been totally happy with it. It has PoE+ for my PTZs and PoE for my varifocals and Ruckus WiFi APs. Stable and reliable.

Alerts play footage from wrong time

The time stamp is from the cameras which are synced to a stratum 2 time source every minute. The feeds record direct to disk in BI so no overlay there.

I am experiencing an odd BI behavior. This started after I recently updated from a version 4.x to version 5.x using the in app updater. I have repaired the DB. I have deleted and rebuilt the DB. I have rebooted the machine, I have installed the minor newer versions of BI as they became...

Hikvision NVR user login question, viewing single feed via specific URL

Hi Everyone. I have a situation that I can't seem to figure out and I am hoping someone on here with more Hikvision knowledge might be able to help. A business has a Hikvision NVR with 12 IP cameras directly attached. The boss would like to have a screen in a common area that displays only a...

Why I like Continuous Recording (aka 24/7)

NTP or Network Time Protocol allows for synchronized clocks on data networks that either connect to the internet to get time data from servers like pool.ntp.org or 0.north-america.pool.ntp.org or time.windows.com, for greater precision or non-internet accessible locations you can use a special...

Blue Iris 5.3.8.4 skipping alerts during playback

I reverted back to 5.3.6.7 and the issue has stopped happening. Hopefully it was just a broken install for me specifically and no one else will experience this issue. In a few days I may update to 5.3.8.4 again and see if the issue reoccurs.

Perhaps I missed something, or perhaps I am mistaken in the belief that the FPS and I Frame interval should match ? You have your FPS @ 25 and your I Frame Interval at 50. Perhaps see if matching the I Frame Interval to 25 helps ?

    10/100 vs gigabit PoE switch

@bp2008 is absolutely correct and I should have been more exacting in my response, even the most exotic and powerful cameras would struggle to fill a 100Mbps pipe. I too was meaning to convey that each camera is fine on 10/100 but in aggregate they could saturate a 100Mpbs and so a 1000Mbps...

    10/100 vs gigabit PoE switch

You are welcome to update the software on the switch but honestly I wouldn't lose any sleep about it and I wouldn't worry when Cisco stops providing software updates. Your switch will, I assume, live in your private internal network behind a firewall so the attack vector is virtually zero. Your...

    10/100 vs gigabit PoE switch

With 14 cameras it will depend on their resolution, frame rate and bit rate settings if a 10/100 is acceptable or if you need a 10/100/1000 switch. The determination is one of bandwidth aggregation, all 14 cameras will have to talk to the Blue Iris machine over 1 Ethernet connection (the...

Wing shape is an excellent way to differentiate raptors. Hawks and Eagles are passive soaring winged raptors while falcons are high speed winged raptors. Passive Soaring Winged raptors tend to flap their wings as little as possible, they utilize "thermals" to stay aloft and conserve energy for...

Dahua PFA137 junction box - is top/bottom orientation important?

It is probably less about letting water exit and more about not having an opening on top for water to pool and enter the enclosure. The only thing I can think of that could perhaps be an issue is if the proposed orientation forces the camera you plan to put on it into a strange position that...
