Survey: how often does BI crash?

I totally agree! This is a dedicated system that's, theoretically, only running the stuff I need to use and administer it. I AM guilty of updating BI pretty much as soon as the update shows up but that's mostly because I keep hoping the update will fix my crash problem.

Survey: how often does BI crash?

Skeptical that that's it - it's not the whole system that's crashing just BI... But sure, I'll give it a shot. Meanwhile, though, ANY thoughts/help on finding some actual error messages for the crashes? Seems like that's a sensible place to start. But yes, I guess I'll just start googling on...

Survey: how often does BI crash?

Not really - the boot disk on the old system was reformatted and is now being used as a data disk on the new one.

Survey: how often does BI crash?

Glad it's not normal at least... so I guess it's troubleshootin' time... Yes I did a totally clean windows install direct from MS. I'm not using the machine for anything else but there are a couple of other things installed like Dropbox, TightVNC, FreeSSHd... I think that's about it... Not a...

Survey: how often does BI crash?

Fairly new BI user - have had it running for a couple of months. But it seems to crash on me relatively often... couple of times a week? Is that normal? What are other people seeing? Beyond that, is there a good handhold-the-noob guide for diagnosing what the issue may be? (more info: About a...

Best indoor camera for use with Blue Iris

Are these new Andy? Looks like a decent option and I like that they're all white vs. the Annke/Hikvision cubes. Anybody else running these? Are there firmware updates needed as with the Annke/etc? (For what it's worth, here's a link to it: Aliexpress.com : Buy IPC K35A 3MP K Series PoE...

Tesla Model S Browser and BI web viewer

Was afraid that was the answer. Ah well. And crw030, for the record it wasn't for watching security camera while driving, it was actually for watching from my garage security camera's POV as I try to park in my overstuffed garage :)

Tesla Model S Browser and BI web viewer

Yeah no luck there either - tried the old web interface and the new UI3 interface with equal non-results. Googling around I've found a couple of posts where people say they've gotten it to work but haven't managed to get in touch w/ anybody to confirm. I've got a pretty early Model S so maybe...

Anybody managed to get a Blue Iris view on the web browser in their Model S? I'm not having any luck so far...

Suggestions for Surf Cam (PTZ with powerful 'Z')

I'm about 3 blocks from the beach and from the tippytop of my roof I can see several of the local surf spots. Would like to mount something up there (probably on the top of a pole) that can pan and zoom to see the conditions at these locations. Long zoom would be nice. Low-light not particularly...

.bvr viewing via VLC on Mac? (or, how bad is .avi instead?)

yeah but then we're back to a scenario where it's either going to require me to manually export/transcode or else give someone else access to the box which I don't really want to do. Was contemplating a scenario where cron job is running to periodically move stuff into a dropbox or upload via...

.bvr viewing via VLC on Mac? (or, how bad is .avi instead?)

Videos need to be ingested into an editing package and that person doesn't have direct access to the Blue Iris box. Is there a way I'm not aware of to download and convert videos from the Blue Iris webserver?

.bvr viewing via VLC on Mac? (or, how bad is .avi instead?)

Like I said, because I want to view on a Mac (or Linux for that matter) box. And (also like I said, sorry to be snarky) I'm aware of the simultaneous read/write issue but I'm not sure how often I'd really run into that. Depends on clip length?

.bvr viewing via VLC on Mac? (or, how bad is .avi instead?)

Has anybody ever managed to figure out a way to read .bvr files directly on a Mac, ideally through something like VLC? Failing that, what's people's experiences been with writing directly to .avi or some other format that VLC is happy with? I know there's an issue with reading while writing but...

Cool, thanks guys. Paid a little more to get one from Amazon ASAP and will watch for a deal to get another.

Small Cheap POE IP camera (without virus payload :)

So there's this massive thread here - Super-cheap POE IP Camera? - that talked ad nauseam about junky stuff that may or may not include extra bonus malware for your enjoyment but I'd love to see a discussion on what sort of semi-cheap and semi-good options are out there for really small POE...

how do I know if I need Starlight?

Your hunch is probably right overall, but one of my house-corners is almost directly under a street-light. Ultimately I was hoping for something more concrete than hunches :) And yes, did look at both of those threads and they certainly demonstrate what I already understand about...

how do I know if I need Starlight?

Yes, totally understand the tradeoff between resolution and low-light sensitivity. I'm just curious if anybody's tried to quantify when that tradeoff is needed. Given a street with enough artificial light you could potentially get away with a 4Mp camera instead of needing the greater sensitivity...

how do I know if I need Starlight?

Just curious if anybody has suggestions for determining if Starlight is actually necessary given that I've got a fairly well-lit street. For me the tradeoff would be getting a higher-resolution sensor, assuming it'll hold up at night. I've actually got an IPC-HDW5231R-Z on order - once I set...

    windows version recommendation?

Super useful, thanks. While we're at it, can anybody recommend a good guide to cleaning out bloatware that might be on whatever system I have? I've been almost exclusively Unix/Mac for the last decade or more so going to have to re-educate myself on how to run a clean Windows system.

Is there a general consensus for the most stable OS to run BI on? Machine would be dedicated to BI only. Win10 or Win8?

6 outdoor cameras... make my life easy (Los Angeles)

Excellent info, thanks. You've got the perfect mix of experience for most of the stuff I'm considering! For what it's worth, the still-in-beta Ubiquiti G3-Pro is allegedly (via https://dl.ubnt.com/datasheets/unifi/UniFI_Video_DS.pdf) using the Sony IMX290 sensor which I believe is STARVIS...

6 outdoor cameras... make my life easy (Los Angeles)

Yes, I know there's a cost to Ubiquity vs. Chinese imports from AliExpress/etc.... If it saves me a ton of configuration time not having to deal with firmware, security and so on then yes, it may be worth it to me. Obviously hard to quantify. Thanks for the heads-up on Ubiquity sale and those...

6 outdoor cameras... make my life easy (Los Angeles)

I'm in the end-game for a new home build and it's time to figure out things like security cameras. The good news is I've got ethernet running to 6 exterior locations but beyond that I'm starting from scratch on the learning curve (well, other than a lot of hours browsing this forum). In addition...
