    Hikvision Capture

Seeing how it looks to be in Johannesburg, the cops won't show up. The cop stations have a panic button for ADT (or at least the one I have been in near Cape Town).

Help - BI Lag/hanging/crash, and remove viewers hanging - Any suggestions?

AVI has a 1GB limit, BVR allows viewing while recording and doesn't have the limit. You can set a limit for each BVR file based on size or record time. Could it be that you are hitting the 1GB limit on multiple cameras and it is creating new files causing a surge in IO? With that many cameras...

    can this handle 64 cameras?

What is the power consumption on it with that load? Which CPU did you end up going with? Also, what resolution and frame rates are you using?

    All alerts quit working

Go into alert settings under the cameras and do a test send for each of the configured alert options. This will at least test the settings in the alert fields.

    can this handle 64 cameras?

Would be curious how it works out. Those also have hyper-threading, so your 10 core is actual 20 HT cores. Check out the top one on this list, mainly mobo and cpu.. http://www.apaqdigital.com/main/home/S2011_DP.htm

Alerts to Google Drive in format other than BVR?

Under the user settings. Make sure you have "view recorded clips" checked. Since you are probably the admin of the system you can give access to all the features.

Spiders, webs and motion - ARGH

Several plant types that spiders do not like near the cameras will help. I have heard that Citronella drops on or near the cameras works. Maybe plant some citronella near the camera?

    Ip Cameras and network traffic

With multiple subnets/vlans you will need a router in the middle capable of layer3 routing. Only a router can break up broadcast domains, so a non-layer3 switch will not do the trick. If your current router can support vlans, then you will be ok. If not, routing between the 2 networks will be...

Carl, the owner of Network Camera Critic, passed away

This is so sad. Carl was one of the few people in forums to never get into arguments or pissing contests. He was above that and provided the best info possible to the community. RIP Carl

    Front Door Camera Lens:

If someone is right at the door, you will only see the top of their head. I will see them coming up the stairs though Eventually, I will have a 6mm turret on the right side facing the door to get a better view of the person. My front porch is 75' wide, I have 5 cams on it now and will...

    Front Door Camera Lens:

I have a 2.8 at my front door. The steps are 12' wide and the railing area is about 20'. It is a Hikvision 3MP mini-dome with audio. It is running in 3MP mode. It is mounted about 9' above the porch floor.

    Performance and general questions

If someone is not watching the cameras 24x7 the live view could be set a lot lower. I have mine set to 5fps and it seems to work well even for watching 24x7. This won't affect your recording fps. Dropping your recording to 20fps, or even 15 will leave you with a very good video capture. For...

100 cpu usage when viewing clips

Are you using the onboard video card? I noticed a big difference when I upgraded to a better graphics card several years ago from a lower end version. A better graphics card will all you to offload some of the video cpu cycles from the cpu. It is recommended by BI to not use onboard graphics...

1U or 2U rackmount build for 64 camera system?
