Personally I would go with the Loryta simply because it is from a known and trusted vendor on this site @EMPIRETECANDY

While the Hitosino may be fine and a search here does show some people using them and a member here works for them, you never know if they are international versions or Chinese hacked units.

I appreciate your input. How do you think a 4MP 1/3 sensor will perform at night with a bit of supplemental lighting? I would really prefer to have a camera with a 4MP 1/1.8 sensor but I can't justify paying around $150. What's the cheapest 1/1.8 you know of?
 
If you could find a 2MP with a 1/2.8" sensor it would perform better. But sadly it is hard to find cheap 2MP cameras.

These sensors are so tiny and a 1/3" sensor is a budget sensor.

Before I knew any better I bought a 4MP on a 1/3 sensor and it was horrible at night. Even with 33,000 lumen radiating off my house the camera didn't think it was enough light to go into color.

Unfortunately, the 5442 series is about as cheap as they come on the 1/1.8" sensor.

Some people have had some luck purchasing Lorex 4K cameras on a 1/1.8" sensor. They are usually used and cheaper than what you are looking at now and from what I have seen perform decent.

But if possible, consider getting a better camera; otherwise, you will probably end up replacing this one much sooner than you would like.

The short answer is not to chase megapixels unless you have a good budget.

These are the "go to" 2MP, 1/2.8" sensor cameras. The 2231 is less expensive because it doesn't have audio capability or AI of any kind. The 3241 has a built-in mic and basic AI for humans and vehicles. Both are all metal housings. I have both and they are an excellent value IMHO. Get pricing from Andy at EmpireTech.

Yeah.. sometimes the cheap side of me tries to go with what will "just get the job done" and sometimes i have to tell that side to shut up and get something of excellent, dependable quality. I know if something where to happen where I needed usable video footage from 2am, I'd be pissed if it wasn't.

Yep, we have plenty of people come here AFTER the fact!

As someone here (unfortunately I cannot remember who to give credit to LOL), their wife said "So you spent over $1,000 on cameras and all we can tell the police is what time it happened", so live by @looney2ns motto "Buy once, cry once" LOL.

so i got my IPC-color4k-X in and hooked up and as it stands right now, I'm not impressed.. The settings are pretty straight forward for full sun and it's just really blurry at 100% crop. My 5442's i just returned are better quality at full crop. Am I missing something here?

This is a 4K camera, so double the MP of the 5442s so the bitrate needs to be WAY HIGHER if you insist on running 30FPS...and is that from the substream? Or did you digitally zoom in a bit? Keep in mind digital zoom only works in the movies and TV and this camera isn't magic. Same issues as any other camera digital zooming.

And everything else is on auto. You have to dial it in.

But 30FPS is just foolish.

No reason to run 30FPS. That is just wasting storage space and not getting you anything of value. Police only care about a clean image capture, not smooth video. Shutter speed is more important than FPS.

Hollywood movies are only shot at 24FPS, so we do not need more than that for our mobile devices and tablets LOL.

15FPS with an iframe Interval of 15 at 10240 bitrate is more than enough. But keep upping the bitrate until it is clearer. Some FoV need more bitrate.

Match the coding and FPS for the substream.

Watch these, for most of us, it isn't annoying until below 10FPS

i can agree with going with 15 fps, that's no issue. This wasn't a digitally zoomed image. It was a 100% crop view from the cameras Main Stream live view page.

I've changed to 15 fps/15 iframe and jumped the bit rate to 20480 below. The fence line is approx 110ft from the camera. Maybe my expectations are just not realistic.

Digital zoom in max difference also based on the lens difference. And 110ft that is too far away for this camera. The z12e 8-64mm lens can do the job, optical zoom is useful for the long distance watching.

There is still something amiss. That picture should be sharp as a tack.
 
That picture is either digitally zoomed or substream.

Do a full screenshot so we can see the camera gui as well.
