Here are two screenshots comparing a DS-2CD2347G1-L (ColorVu) next to a DS-2CD2346G2-ISU/SL (Darkfighter). I am quite impressed!
what happens on movement ? maybe post a video ?

you can tune any camera to look like this in full color mode on still image.. i know that these colorvu cameras are not magical create light (with builtin off). Colorvu just dials in some fancy settings to make it look good on still, maybe acceptable on movement in some situations/scenes.

default values, with shutter speed at 1/25
i dont think that will give you any good footage...

maybe the built-in leds will be enough for the small area... but 1/25 ?

the problem with most of the colorvu models...
they dont have a PIR sensor... so your "motion detection" is maybe not able to find motion to turn the LEDs on if you dial in good settings...

only option to get good footage is to turn leds on whole night or install pir floodlight

Also to mention... the comparison is apples vs. oranges...

4MP ... 1/3" vs 1/1,8" ... really?

The slowest shutter speed for blur reduced night video is 1/60 and 1/100 will be much better. 1/25 will result in so much blur that the video is useless.

I've not been unhappy with the daytime image provided by the DS-2CD2347G1-LU ColorVu, but it is a little different than that from the DS-2CD2347G2-LU ColorVu 2.0
Here are a couple of sample snapshots. In both cases the image parameters at at the default of 50, exposure at 1/50, gain 100%

So all the above are now fixed following the upgrade to this IPC_G3_EN_STD_5.5.150_200927 firmware :

The camera is now correctly reporting Intrusion detection and Line crossing detection, which is probably the biggest bug.
And SADP will now make changes withot generating an error.
Thanks for the snapshots, alastairstevenson.

I have a few G1's am now considering buying the G2 but I have a question about the image processing. In your snapshots, the G1 appears to have far more dynamic range and captures the ceiling fan in the conservatory in the distance whilst the G2 seems to get washed out. This may be because the G2 was located slightly below the G1 and had the sunlight reflecting into it at that moment?

When I look at a few random objects in the image, the G1 also captures a lot more detail - the texture of the stones, grass, white blinds in the windows in the distance is retained much better in the G1 albeit colors are duller and less contrasty.

Do you know if HIK have improved the G2 image processing recently ? I do wonder if the G2 has less detail because of the new lens that gives it slightly wider FOV or if it is due to Accusense processing.
Do you have any night time or low light images aswell?

I have had no issues with my G1's but the G2 being the latest model and being cheaper on one particular online seller makes it appealing.

Overall, I do think the G2 image pops out more but as this is CCTV and not photography, detail matter more to me as it could make the difference between getting that number plate / face or missing it

Thanks

Hi, any updates on the nighttime detail between the G1 and G2? I too noticed the level of detail and also shadow detail is a fair bit lower on the G2 night time image from the original post.

Does the G1 also have the ability to start at a lower LED level and increase with a trigger?

Is there a reason the 8mp is only available in the bullet style and not a turret?

EDIT: Just found that they are available, sorry.

DS-2CD2387G2-LSU/SL (Built-in Mic, Speaker and Strobe Light, support 2-way-audio) will be available in March.

I hope the built in strobe light isn't an indication the sensor has also been downsized in favour of supplementary lighting.

You'll get few sales if the sensor is downgraded as very few people if any like supplementary lighting. Sensor size is king. Most people want cameras that can see in the dark in full colour with grain free, super sharp, motion blur free pictures using no addtional lighting and certainly non in camera. If the strobe is nothing more than just an optional (activate it or leave it off) scare off feature than I see the model gaining traction.
