Review-OEM Loryta IPC-T5442T-ZE Varifocal 4mp camera (Dahua)

You may not have enough ambient light for night time color without adding more light.

But I'd knock down 3DNR to around 20 - 30 and bump the shutter up to 1/120. That should help with ghosting. You aren't running WDR or any other back lighting are you?

The black one right now we will sell only on US Amazon. Looks great!

Thats a bummer Andy, i was really looking forward to getting these in black. What's the reason for not selling on AliExpress?

We don't have plan to sell them on aliexpress, will sell on amazon only or buy from us directly, i just send you a PM for how to purchase.

I tested this camera a lot, with a lot of different settings.
Unfortuneatly I have to go back to my old camera, the Hikvision DS-2CD2385FWD-I
This because this camera makes better picture.
The Dahua in color is ghosting at night, even if I have a bit of light. (More than starlight ;-)
I'm wondering if the 8MP 1/1.8" sensor picks up less light from the bright bulb by the door so it isn't adjusting the rest of the image as much to compensate.

The 5442 is suffering from not adjusting the IR quickly, or properly, enough. That's a known problem that is being addressed by Dahua and Andy working with a few IPCT members.

My goal was to have color at night. I did not succeed with the dahua.
So I have to fall back on IR (black and white)
When I do IR, the Hikvision is better with the 8MP camera than the 4MP Dahua. Much sharper video.

But you are right, the sensor of the Dahua should be better because of the 1/1.8 sensor.
So now, I think I will order and test the Hikvision DS-2CD2386G2-IU, which has also a 1/1.8 sensor, but also 8MP.
One thing, you need to get the porch light out of the fov, it's messing with your exposure. You need to lower the NR as well.

HI Funkyduck

Many thanks for the post I requested comparing the Hikvision vs the Dahua and yes, as you said, the Hikvision shows more detail. What’s more, the 8MP 1/2.5 Hik is not so much darker than the 4MP 1/1.8 Dahua. Of course, the very knowledgeable forum member Wopi82 did point out recently that the eyes’ perception to brightness is logarithmic and so, if I’ve got this right, the illumination sensitivity difference of 4x between the two cameras only appears to be a difference of 1.6 times to the eye.

What’s significant though, is the huge difference in the mp4 file size between Hikvision and Dahua - 88MB for the Hikvision and only 17MB for the Dahua (both videos 35s duration). I assume this translates to a similar difference in the bitrate setting between the two cameras. Bitrate is one of the many crucial setting variables, some others having been mentioned by forum members above. So, putting the 2x pixel density to one side, the Hikvision had the availability of 5x more picture data and sure to win.

It’s a shame, isn’t it, that the moving person image when directly in front of both cameras is complete rubbish!

We may not get any more comments from across the pond for a little while, I guess they’re all somewhat preoccupied on another matter just now...

Thanks again for the videos.

It doesn't have to be.

This.

Turn down gain and add some HLC to tone down the hotspot. Playing with exposure compensation may also help.
And this. These two things alone equal this (please excuse me being bagged out lol). This is with a mere 60watt incandescent bulb and is a Dahua 4mp 2431- not as good a sensor as the camera being discussed here. If this camera can be dialed in, so can a 5442. The above videos of ghosting in color and blown out in B&W are simply not dialed in for best results, or at all.

Same camera before tweaking to tame the image-

Did you use the helpful advise to experiment further with your settings Funkyduck?

I have to say that I don’t favour a fixed shutter setting. Far better to use Shutter Priority / Customised Range (Dahua). Set to 0 - 8.3ms to correspond with the suggested 1/120 so that the shutter time will automatically shorten to prevent an over exposed image.

I tried all settings I think. At the end 'automatic' was the best.
Now I am waiting for the 8MP hikvision with the 1/1.8 sensor to test. I hope this one will be a better option.

Good light places the 4K camera surely better than the 4MP one, this IPC-T5442T-ZE is working great at very poor light places. The 4K one still have a long way to go. USA ban effectS dH and hik to get the best and cost saving chips, so in 2021 if ban go on, the cost for good cameras price will increase.

We also has a 1/2'' cmos hikvision OEM camera on amazon, working good too.

@EMPIRETECANDY I discovered that there might be an issue when setting up the IPC-T5442T-ZE camera.
When I open the camera setting => condition, Zoom and focus the image is black with any modern browser I try.
Only old IE seems to work, but I never use that one for anything because it is pretty obsolete

Try Chrome with the IE plug-in or Pale Moon 32 bit.

Same here, every tab works (live, conditions, overlay, ROI) but the zoom and focus doesn't. It's just black.

I have 2, one running V2.800.0000000.16.R, Build Date: 2020-05-29 and the other V2.800.0000000.19.R, Build Date: 2020-07-09. Both have the same issue.

Yes, we also find this bug, and report to dahua. Let's wait their feedback.
